the moe I read about this the more I wanting to rip someone's face off.
you disgusting ******* pathetic "men". YOU are all shameful and digusting pieces of ****. your hands are DIRTY with the blood and feces of those little boys just as much as that PIG PIG PIG DISGUSTING MONSTER is.
how anyone can justify this behavior in any way is just beyond the scope of human comprehension.
ETA: it is clear to me that all of the witnesses and such involved in this are so blinded by the football legacy and the football culture in the schools in our country. NO ONE wanted to screw up Paterno or Penn States rep. it was more scary to do that than to SAVE CHILDREN FROM BEING RAPED.
there are really no words to describe how completely horrified and enraged I am by this.
I completely agree.
And I'm sorry but the fact that "Joe Pa" is all of a sudden retiring effective immediately at the end of the season tells me there's way more to this and his involvement somehow is damning.
I am NOT saying he abused anyone but I do feel he must have played some kind of role (whether it was turning a blind eye, not telling anyeone sooner - who knows if the dude they're saying told him, is really the first person to have ever told him??).
I also feel like this is Joe Paterno trying to save his own face. If you listen to the statement about this, he talks about how he wishes he did more. Then he goes on to say that effective immediately he will retire at the end of the season, and he is trying to make it easy on the board as they have bigger issues to discuss and should not spend another minute discussing his fate.
His speech is selfish, and the decision is selfish. He is trying to make a move first, because he knows that the board is discussing when the end should be.
He is just trying to stay in control, as he always has been.

I agree with this.
He's trying to look like the bigger guy and "fall on the sword" so to speak but in reality, I think he's doing it to save himself.
I'm telling you, there's more to this and there's more to his involvement.
If he was really completely innocent and did all the right things, why would anyone be deciding his fate?
It doesn't add up.

Re: Did we discuss the Penn State scandal? (updated)
I like Joe Paterno. I think he's a great football coach. He may have complied with PA state law but he failed those children by not escalating the matter.
I just spoke to a Penn State alumni & football fan. He said "Today is the saddest day for Penn State."
I said "I know a sadder time. The day that man was found & every day afterwards that the staff turned a blind eye."

Joe Paterno was a football hero, but he failed to be a real hero. It is time to stop gloryfying sports figures and treat them as humans.
They are NOT superheroes. They are NOTperfect. and they are NOT above the law.

I wonder if it makes a difference in his pension or otherwise had be been removed for cause. I would think it would. Retiring probably allows him to maintain his package - Completely off subject but I don't think he should be given the opportunity to retire. The whole thing is disgusting. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!

That's what I keep saying. I'm furious that they are SO ANGRY over this firing. Where was this rage when the allegations against Sandusky were made?

I can't believe the footage of the rioting I'm seeing. This man knew that boys were being abused and said nothing. How can you go on and on about a great man he was knowing that he did that, he even said that he should have done more. Why are they rioting for him, that's disgusting, why aren't they rioting due to the poor treatment and lack of justice those boys got?
This is so disgusting.

I can't read the details...I am already a crazy mom.
But I have to say...something changes when guys call a man "coach" I saw it in my brothers, I see it in my own kid at age 4.
The title comes with so much effing power. These men are animals. The lowest of the low. To work on parents to gain their trust-then to have a boy call you coach...all to rape him in the shower- the story is just too much

of course they are. in case you forgot, HE'S NOT JERRY SANDUSKY. he's not the one who touched or saw anyone touch any children. he was fired, but the vp is on administrative leave and the asst coach who actually SAW a rape occur is still employed....
i'm not supporting the rioters but i'm supporting my fellow psu students/grads who are upset at the way this whole thing played out.

I understand your anger b/c you went to Penn state.. but take a step back and see the big picture.. He had knowledge of what was going on and didn't report it to the police . Could you stand by someone knowing they abused a CHILD!! I will ignore your snarkiness b/c I see your trying to stick with your Penn state alum and undergrads.. but please try and see what the real story is here!!
ETA: you said yourself you are NOT supporting the rioters.. so what's wrong with what I said...

Don't get me wrong, all those people still employed that also knew should be fired as well and yes, he may not be Jerry Sandusky, he didn't rape little boys but he is just as guilty in my eyes along with all those other men at the school who knew about the rape and DID NOTHING! He sure as he ll should have been fired, he is disgusting. THE SECOND he AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO KNEW found out about the rape, even if they weren't sure if it really did occur, should have done more, way more to help those boys. Everyone involved needs to go, they all have guilt on their hands and in their hearts.
How did you want it to be played out? Did you want him to stay because he is a football hero at Penn State? Should the media be mainly focused on him? Probably not, but he is the "celebrity" out of the group of men who knew about it so that is why they are doing it. No one knows the other men so it's not a news story, that's why they aren't focusing on them. In my eyes, they are all just as guilty as Sandusky and I hope they all rot in he ll because that's what the rest of life is like for a rape victim, one big he ll.
No one advocated for these boys at Penn State then, and no one is advocating for them now, they are all standing behind a man who let it go. That is gross. All for what, a football legacy?

It's not only that he is a coach for Penn state. It's so much more than that. He FOUNDED a charitable foundation for underprivileged boys, used this foundation to PREY on them, and then took advantage of them.
What kind of sick, disgusting, POS does that?????
Everything about this story makes me fume with rage. From the graduate student who witnessed the sodomy in the shower and went home to ask his father what he should do seriously, you don't know what to do in that situation???? To the scores of people, Paterno, Curley, Schulz, who chose to ignore the truth and allow their loyalty to FOOTBALL blind themselves to potentially dozens of boys being sexually abused.
And the Penn state riots over paterno's firing???
I can't even begin to describe my disgust at the whole situation and what it says about humanity.

This part infuriates me! Originally I had read reports that he was a student at the time of the incident and that wouldn't have made a difference really but imagine my shock when I found out he was 28 years old when he witnessed this! 28! You are a grown a$$ man and you need to call your dad to ask him what you should do?! And from what I understand he is a pretty big guy. How is your first reaction not to pull that kid out of there and beat the mess out of Sandusky!?
And then all those rioters last night made me think of that poor kid in the shower. I'm sure he prayed that someone, anyone would speak up for him

Forgive my ignorance. But didn't Paterno report it to college officials? How does he go to police with hearsay?
As my cousin pointed out to me, he did what he was obligated to do, but failed morally. That is how I see it.
And for someone dealing with a legal battle of hearsay and other crap, you get screwed in it.

Ok I understand "hearsay" HOWEVER,, it's not like it was a rumor from an uninformed or unreliable source!! It was from the EYE WITNESS TOT HE ASSAULT!!! That to me makes all the difference. he was a part of their coach staff..he obviously trusted he judgement ...so why would he even question what Mcqueary saw!!! You go to the police!!!
