I'm a bit confused as to the point of this post. To compare rings? To see how much money one would spend in order to better "show their love"? I'm lost as to the rationale behind this poll.
Money posts, ring posts... all potential drama It's getting old IMHO

I found the actual statistics on the average price of engagement ring:
$3,044 (Bride's Millenium Report) $2,982 (Bride's Magazine) $2,909 (Modern Bride, as cited in Weddings for Dummies) $3,576 (Conde Nast Bridal Group) $3,165 (Modern Bride Magazine) $2,807 (National Bride Service)
These prices are not from NY. Maybe this is how they roll in KY.
Well I can tell you that here in MI this is avergae. I took the poll and I can tell you that the 8500+ is NOT normal here. In fact until I started on LIW I would have never guessed regular people had such elaborate rings. They are beautiful, but not something I see normally. I would tread lightly with the KY comment.....I know it rubbed me wrong, but that it wasn't ment to. What I see from the LIW board is the exception not the norm for most.
I agree with medic6809.. That was a bit rude and very close minded. NY (as much as I love living here) is not the center of the world. What we pay for rings could feed a family for years in many parts of the world. Lets keep things in perspective and count our blessings.

Re: Diamond Spinoff (With Poll):
I think this post was started because of the other thread where a poster was trying to help her friends boyfriend get a ring within his budget and prices and other criteria were being discussed.
I love my ring and I am so happy that DH got it for me, but I don't look at erings as a status symbol. We have a lot of friends all over the US and a lot of them have a ton more money than us yet the wives don't wear big erings or any ering for that matter. It's just not how they are.

Touche... However, I was making an observation about the post. This topic always rears its ugly head and causes drama. I can post an observation, right?
Quite funny that the OP posts a controversial topic and doesn't stick around for the aftermath. These types of posts are silly. To get all bent out of shape over them is worse.

Very true. Good point. I just get upset when I see comparisons because I know ultimately SOMEONES feelings are bound to be hurt.

yeah i don't think this post was started for drama at all--its just what the end result is when it comes up. i think the other diamond post was more like "hey my friend has xx amount of dollars what do you recommend?"
but when the topic is "how much was yours?" thats what people's opinions get all mixed up and sometimes ppl say and post things that pisss off others.

Re: Diamond Spinoff (With Poll):
i think everyone should leave danielle alone!! she doesnt seem to be the type to start drama or be drawn to it. she stated that she started this post bc she was curious about something. she is not required to sit and watch it like a hawk for the following few hours. perhaps she has other things to do than watch a post all night and was planning on checking back on it at a later time.

These are the national average.
While mine was above the national average, I don't see why DH would spend mid- to high-5 figures, because if he did spent mid- to high- 5 figures, I wouldn't want to wear the real thing for fear of something happening to it (even if it was insured), and I would wear a replica.
So why not just skip to the replica, and not have an expensive ring sitting in a safe, afraid to wear it?

If you want to know what the average person pays for an engagement ring you don't ask New Yorkers. Everything here is "bigger" and "better". JMO.
I understand what you are saying - but, I want to know the average in relation to my world and everyday surroundings - which is New York - so, asking New Yorkers is perfect to me.
