My mom and my aunt had an evil kid gift war when we were kids. My aunt got us drums, my mom got my cousins play doh...they were SO mature

I feel your pain
My DH has a HUGE drum kit. He started out as a drummer and was in a lot of bands.
There is no escaping it in our house. Music rules and it's gonna be noisey.
Would you believe Santa (aka "Mommy bought them") is bringing my kids a mini-instrument set for X-mas?
Your IL's clearly hate you and I am clearly insane

My inlaws had Jack playing with an adult set when we were visting and thought how awesome it would be for him for Christmas... yeah it would be super awesome especially with his newborn sister next door...
Hopefully they won't because they'll have to ship it..
Does he love it though...

my brother is a drummer, we always had to move it to the opposite side of the house every few months to give each next door neighbor a break.
My mother wanted to send my little Ricky one...there is no way, my downstairs neighbor complains about my washing machine spin cycle, this would send them over the edge.

All of DS's loud toys have volume control and/or batteries so they can be turned off....
The do have adult-size drum kits that are electronic (not an electric drum kit, but a real drum setup). A friend of mine had a set. The drum heads are some sort of tight mesh, and the cymbals are rubber. They have electronic sensors to pick up the hits. You could barely hear anything from 5' away, and with the door closed, you couldn't hear anything.
