crib bumpers..thoughts?
Ok,
so everytihng I read says crib bumpers are a bad and dangerous ideas...along with that so are quilts...
So what's the point of buying the bedding if everything the comes with it has to be taken off once the kid goes in it?
What are your thoughts? Are you going to use bumpers even if it's recommended you don't? What's the point of the quilt if you ahve to ake it off every night? will I really put it back on or even care when the kid gets here??

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
We put breathable bumpers on the crib for now. When he gets a bit older, I will put the regular bumpers on.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
Im very curious what others will post about this. Im so confused myself. For DS I bought this beautiful set from PBK and ended up using nothing but the blanket, and that was only once he was a toddler. We used a fitted sheet and the breathe right bumpers. Im wondering if I should not even bother for my second.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
Honestly, I set the crib up right now with the bumpers. I just want to put the baby in there and take some pics in the beginning, even though the baby will be sleeping in our room in the bassinet for a while! Once the baby starts moving, I will take them off! It looks nice for show now!

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
I'm very torn on this. I've had mixed opinions given to me from BTDT mom friends.
I registered for breathable bumpers in case I choose to not use the bumpers that came with the bedding set.
I was told that the bumpers are bad when they child starts to pick themselves up & can use the bumper to stand up on - thus causing them to fall out. So thats when you should take them out.

Yes I heard that it's bad once they can move too b/c they use it as a stepping tool!
It's crazy what to worry about.

I always felt this way too till I read the statisics of the dangers or bedding and cribs and how most infant injuries and deaths are caused by where they sleep! I have to question whether aestetics is worht the risK??

I did not get a bedding set for DC. I figured the money could be better spent on something else. I've never regretted not having it; we will do the same for this baby.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
My DS is 3 months old - I guess I am lurking or reminiscing LOL - and I asked myself the same question as the OP.
The quilt is draped over the glider in the room for aesthetics (I did the safari theme.) The bumper is in the attic because I used the breathable ones instead. The skirt is also in the attic because the crib has drawer space and the skirt would not sit right on it.
So out of a four piece set, I am using just one piece - the fitted sheet.
If I had to do it again, I would have registered for individual pieces, not the set.

The point is $$$. Buy a fitted sheet that you think is cute and save your money for "outside the crib" room decor.

Same things here...I got breathable bumpers for when she goes into her crib. She will be in our room in the bassinet for a while!

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
I initially put bumpers in DD's crib, but as soon as I did, it made me very uneasy so I took them out.
I've never used bumpers and have never had an issue not using them.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
I'm saving the bumpers until later.
In my set there is a fitted sheet, crb skirt, window valance & blanket (all of which I will use somehere in the room).
The blanket will decorate the rocker.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
Every BTDT mom I spoke to advised me not to register for a whole bedding set because I wouldn't use it. I understood the logic but ended up registering for a set anyway. I only ended up using the fitted sheet and bedskirt and the bumpers, valance (didn't fit my window), and blanket are sitting in the back of my closet. Such a waste of $$. When I have DC #2 I definitely will NOT get a set and just buy crib sheets. I've learned my lesson!!

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
This is why I didn't get a bedding set. I found a bedding set I liked, and got some of the accessories that went with it (curtains, hamper, changing pad cover). I just got fitted sheets and breathable bumpers for the crib.

Yeah, I think it is really annoying that they still put bumpers in those sets. I am using breathable bumpers and my Mom is going to sew the bumpers that come in the set into a play mat and some pillows.

I also did not buy a bedding set b/c of this. A set that had separates was key. I bought the pieces that I wanted.

Re: crib bumpers..thoughts?
With DD, I bought pieces of a set from PBK. Bumper, crib skirt and pillow sham (for decorative purposes on the chair) and coordinating sheets. I'll be doing the same with this DC.
I've noticed some bedding sets have huge, fat bumpers but the one that I got from PBK was thin and tall. I felt safe using it and it didn't withstand a DD standing on it. Those fat bumpers make me really nervous and I wouldn't feel comfortable having them.

I pretty much feel the same. I am going to try to use the regular bumpers- people did for many many years! I think it depends on your baby- if your baby seems to be interested in them or play with them/stand on them, etc take them out. I am going to give them a try.
