Countertops....
what kind do you have? Do you love it? If you put it in do you wish you picked something else?
I so want a new countertop mine is ugly and PINK (not a nice pink either) When we moved in I said that would be the FIRST thing we changed and somehow its become the LAST thing

Re: Countertops....
We redid our kitchen and installed black galaxy granite counters. They are beautiful and they go with the kitchen BUT...they show every little fingerprint, smudge, smear, etc. I do love how they look for the most part and have learned how to clean them enough to be OK with them since its impossible for me to have a printless showplace with 3 kids but that's definitely the downside of that color. Thanks. My parents have the same color. As you read in my other thread this is what my DH is afraid of

Re: Countertops....
We have absolute black granite. It is true that you can see streaks on it... but I love it anyway and wouldn't change it if I did my kitchen again. I just love the way it looks. But I am always cleaning them.

Re: Countertops....
Well juney ours are white formica I guess... they have been a top proirity but as you say -- priorities change and right now we aren't doing any remodeling - not til we are finished with the IVF bills at least!!!
I would NOT get white - I hate them - everything stains them - but I am sure you weren't even considering this option...

Re: Countertops....
When we were looking I also like the Du Pont Simplicity in Russet Tweed. It is not shiny at all so it wouldn't look streaky like granite. It is also very durable.

I have granite also. I think the color is called Paradisio. The only thing is that you have to seal granite and can't clean it with fantastik or regular cleaner. Other than that I luv it!

Re: Countertops....
We replaced the ugly green marble formica countertop with a glossy black formica counter top - Formica is inexpensive and for now its great - but we will probable replace it when we dormer the house in a few years with Silstone. It is stronger than granite....

Re: Countertops....
we had custom formica countertops made because we redid our whole kitchen for 5k we knew it was our best choice. Our formica is not the smooth kind, it has a very slight texture & is scratch resistant. It also is supposed to look like granite but I didn't pick it for that reason. I just love the color. Our cabinets were very inexpensive & I just couldn't see putting $$$ tops on cheap cabinets. Silestone or soapstone would be my "dream" choice anyway. ETS:our tops were DUSTY ROSE

Re: Countertops....
I picked Black Galaxy granite. I really wanted the black because i also wanted black appliances... I must be the only one who is not a fan of SS. the gold and copper flexs compliment my cabinets and tile.
As another poster mentioned, yes, it does show every thing but I actually like that. I wipe down the counters every night and go over them with Glass Plus so they are streak free. My MIL has a very busy granite counter... you could drop a pizza on it and not notice... now that she's getting older she's always missing spots of things she spilled because you just can't see it. She's redoing her kitchen and will be going with Ooba-Tuba granite which is a black with dark green. Image Attachment(s):

At our last house we installed butcher block oak wood countertops. They went really well with the white wainscotted style cabinets. We loved them so much that we just installed them in our new house. Only cost about $500, we installed them ourselves. The best part is if you stain or scratch them, all you have to do is sand them down a little and voila, new countertops!

Re: Countertops....
Our countertops are on order....we are getting Lextan. It's a Home Depot brand, an imitation of Corian and Silestone.....cheaper then the rest and the same quality from what I've been told and saw on the sample. When we ordered them, they had a promo of free installation and a free sink.

Re: Countertops....
We have formica - a lovely shade of white with green something or other in it. Ideally I would LOVE a concrete countertop. I love the look - very clean lined and modern. DH can't be sold - and his family is in the concrete business!
Lately I'm leaning more towards natural stones with matte finishes.

we did a low budget re-do of our kitchen
we literally bought stock ones from home depot that look like fake granite and we had the contractor install them

Re: Countertops....
The countertop we put in our apt is formica but I really like it, its black w/ specks of gray and white. From a distance pple always think its granite. We got it from home depot.
For our house we are planning to do white cabinets and blue pearl granite countertops. It is a dark gray w/ specks of light blue and white.
I also like the black galaxy and ooba tuba granite counter tops.

Re: Countertops....
When we bought the house the builder put formica counters on. It was driving me crazy because you could see every little thing stained on them.
We replaced them with Ooba Tuba Granite. I love it. And I especially LOVE them now that I found out I can spray Glass Plus on them. I've been using it for a week now and what a difference in the shine. LOVE IT.

this is what we're going to do also. In fact, I think you have my dream kitchen!! I wanted white cabinets, but DH is being a pain - he says they'll get too dirty and discolored (as if he cleans them anyway!!) I think we're going to go with beige.

That's silly! This is the kitchen we have and in the 2+ years that we lived there and used the kitchen, the cabinets never got too dirty or disolored. Actually, they cleaned up really easily! Image Attachment(s):

Same here. I LOVE my granite. I have to look at my counters on an angle to see if they are dirty!
