Re: Childhood Memories

Lazy summer days in the pool in the backyard & riding my bike around the neighborhood. Having fun w/ friends in Girl Scouts. Playing cards w/ my mom every night at the dining room table while she cooked dinner. I also loved everything about Christmastime, opening gifts Christmas morning, etc.

Re: Childhood Memories

Spending summers in Greece visiting my grandparents with my little brother. We'd walk to the park every single night where we'd get gyros from our favorite souvlaki place. We'd take them home and eat them on the stoop of my grandparents house while my grandpa told us these elaborate stories he made up about dragons, princesses, fairies, etc. He was truly gifted at making up these beautiful fairy tales and was very well known around the neighborhood. Their neighbors used to sometimes come out and sit with us to listen to his stories too. I just remember feeling so incredibly happy and content.

Re: Childhood Memories

Spending sundays at my grandparents house in howard beach, with the whole fam. Big sunday dinners, playing pokeno at the dining room table, walking to the corner store with my grandma, going to the arcade with my little cousins etc.

A week every summer in lake george with my parents, sister and best friend. We did the same things up there each year and went to the same restaurants. There were no tv's in the cabins we stayed and i just loved the comfort in traditions.

The weeks that my dad worked midnights - on saturday mornings he would bring home mcdonalds b'fasts for us and sundays he would go to the bakery and get fresh crumb cakes and rolls and come home and make us egg sandwiches.

Too many to count, but a few are:

Sailing with my family

Building forts in the woods every year with friends.

Exploring the dunes, running through the cattails.

Trapping horseshoe crabs, swimming off the docks.

Biking to the penny candy store with friends.

and of course, the ice storms with no electricity & mounds of snow.

Everyone has such simple memories - as in, no material things, video games. Just spending time with family and friends.

Also, the amount of freedome we had but knew everyone was watching so we just didn't get in trouble - I wish DS would have this but times have changed.

I'd be interested to know what our kids fondest memories will be in 30 years.

Family vacations to Disney World.

Summers at my Grandparents house in Farmingdale, hanging out with my cousins. Swimming, making forts, chasing down the ice cream man, playing "office", going to the park. Soooo many great memories. I miss that house, I miss those good times.

Anything with my Grandpa. One thing that always stands out is whenever we slept over he would go out super early before anyone woke up and buy us fresh crumb cake, raisin biscuits, and rolls from the bakery.

Re: Childhood Memories

Sundays in the Summer

We used to go to church, come home and change into bathing suits. Then with about 10 people in my dad's Chevy Nova we would drive to Jones Beach. . .the only way he knew. . .SUNRISE HIGHWAY ALLLLL THE WAY DOWN. It would take two hours. We passed a store with a little boy sitting on a toilet and would all wait to spot it.

Stay at the beach ALL day. . .my mom would make. . .BEACH PASTA (baked ziti with no ricotta) and we would have a huge cooler of TANG to go with it. We ate with real forks and knives but on paper plates. . . my mom even brought the crystal salt shaker! THEN we had to wait an HOUR before swimming, TORTURE!!!

For snack, we would have ripe juicy peaches. . I can still taste them! Then wait another hour lol

We played, swam, took naps under teh umbrella with my mom (whose goal in life was to NOT get a drop of sun on her). My dad used to belly flop in the shallowest surf, weirdo LOL

And just as it was getting dark, my mom would wipe us down with these great babywipes that came in a circular container and popped out - SMELLED SO GOOD! and put us in the car. We would drive home and I fell asleep. . .but I had to wake up so my mom could hose me down in the shower in the basement (the only time I used it) and then rub me down with baby oil and noxema for my face, since I was BRIGHT RED at that point. . .

I would pass out and sleep SO good, and couldnt wait until the next Sunday to do it again!

I think it will be the same. I asked my kids this morning & got a bunch of events & times we spent together - the family snuggle, the snow days, Montauk, etc.

Re: Childhood Memories

Playing with my cousins- we had creative imaginations, we would play for hours concocting "magic potions" out of water and herbs "grass and leaves from the yard", making up treasure hunts, playing house, coloring etc...

Riding bikes after dinner up and down the block with the other kids on the block waiting for Mr. Softee to come around.

Sitting and talking with my Dad on the front stoop while he watered the lawn and had his gin and tonic for the night. I still remember this specific memory the most and I only got to enjoy this for a short time since he passed away when i was 10.

The smell of the Christmas decorations when we took them down from the attic.

Spending the summer upstate at our parents friends summer house. We would go for the whole summer with my aunts and uncles and cousins. All of us kids slept in one big room up stairs in sleeping bags.

We would spend hours on safari in the jungle (the corn fields), go hiking for mushrooms in the woods with hiking sticks that my grandfather would carve out of wood for each of us, catch fireflies, etc.

I miss those days Chat Icon

Re: Childhood Memories

My favorite childhood memories are of my cousin, our friends, and I. We used to live a block away from each other. My cousin had an alleyway behind his house so we'd always go back there and play and hang out. There were a few other kids on the block we were friendly with, particularly two brothers who lived right next door to my cousin. We would never ring the bell or call them or text them or anything complicated like that. On a nice day, we'd stand in the alleyway and shout "JOHN! ANDREW!" until the boys came out to play. Then we'd do whatever- light fireworks, play HORSE, fence to fence freeze tag, manhunt, everything! It was just so much... simpler then. I feel bad for kids now- they don't get to enjoy a childhood like I think we did. I wouldn't trade those memories for all the technology in the world.

Re: Childhood Memories

probably all the lazy summer days Chat Icon my parents have a big inground pool, and we used to just spend all day out in the backyard swimming, playing in the dirt, riding bikes. i grew up on a farm in South Jersey- so the 14 acre lot my parents had was just one huge playground for us Chat Icon LOVED it!!

Also- all of our family trips. my parents like to travel, and took us all over the US. all of the national parks out west, disney world, maine, michigan... we would always drive, and camp. so it was A LOT of family together time. which was good and bad- but usually good. it was always fun just to have a week or so together without TV, phone and all of that other stuff to distract us Chat Icon
