Your Own Childhood memories
Anyone have great memories of things you did as a kid and hope to share them with your LO
Not to say they'll HAVE to enjoy it like you b/c I'm sure there will be things they didn't love that you did, but they'll find their own great memories.
Here's some of mine...
Sleep Away Camp - I have so many fun memories of going to sleep away camp every summer. I plan to send DS and hopefully he'll love it too
Disney World - Enough said
Lots of traveling - my parents loved vacations and taking us away
Grandparent time - when my parents went away on their own or with their friends we spent the time with my grandparents and it was so much fun. DS has a great relationship with his
playing soccer - both my parents were FTW and one or both always came to a game
family dinners at the table
so many more, but just hoping to give DS what I had and more. BTW - camp is sooo pricey now I may have to put some money aside for that

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
The Block- We lived in brooklyn on a street block with at least 6-7 families that we were friends with. The moms would have coffee and chat and all the kids would play on their bikes or "red light green light 123"
The Roof--all the same kids from above but on the roof in the Turtle pool
Sundays- my dad would take us to church and then we would come home to meatballs frying by my mom
ahhhhhhhhhhh

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
Yes but mine were very simple things: catching frogs and keeping them as pets in the backyard playing kickball in the street with the neighborhood kids playing manhunt at night with the neighborhood kids playing outside every day, no matter the weather making igloos (like huge full sized ones) in the snow having our own businesses as kids (raking leaves, shoveling snow, washing cars) spending a lot of time with grandparents, and our cousins. and like you, family dinners at the table.

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
I forgot to add playing kickball or going sledding down the hill (our neighbors had a big one in their backyard) with all the neighborhood kids that I'm still friendly with some today

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
My dad reading The Night Before Christmas to all us girls on Christmas Eve before we went to bed.
Lots of vacations -- my dad loved going on vacations and was self employed so we went on 3-4 trips a year. Most of them were driving trips like upstate, boston, DC, VA, but still a lot of fun.
Disney World -- We went a few times when we were younger and then in 1991 my parents bought timeshare and we have been down every single year since.
Playing outside with the neighborhood kids. We had a ton of kids in our neighborhood and we would always be playing outside. We played kickball, SPUD, hide and seek, manhunt, treasure hunt...everything.
Playing in the snow and in the rain. We built forts and tunnels in our yards when it snowed and played in the huge puddles when it rained a lot.
Having animals -- Since I was a baby we've always had cats or dogs and sometimes both. I hope my kids grow up to love animals like my sisters and I do.
Eating dinner with family. My mom cooked almost every night and we would all sit down and eat dinner and discuss our day.

Anyone remember the game SPUD ???
It was played with a ball, and you picked a topic or something and when the right answer was called out the ball was thrown in the air everyone ran and the person who caught the ball took 4 steps towards the person spelling out S-P-U-D and threw the ball at them (kind of like dodgeball)
Bad explanation I know

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
I loved summer days spent swimming in my pool, and sleepovers that seemed to go on for a week with my best friend.
I also looked forward to seeing my extended family from OOS every New Years. They would drive up from VA the day after Christmas and stay through the New Year. My dad went to school with my mom's sister and they had a ton of friends in common. It was like a big hs reunion for them and a lot of fun for the kids.
I loved weekend days when my parents would be doing projects in and around the house, or we'd be cleaning and they would put on great music like Carol King, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Paul Simon... and we'd all sing as we did our thing.
My dad always took me fishing... even if it was to that gross lake behind the Patchogue Police Department! Usually, it was to much better locations, but if we only had a little bit of time, we'd stop at J's tackle and drop our lines in.
As I got older, I loved it when my dad came to visit me at college. He told me on graduation day that he was so sad I was moving home. I was shocked! Then, he told me it was because that meant he couldn't come visit me in Boston, anymore.
God... I miss my parents.
Great thread, though!

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
Summer trips to somewhere. Usually with a Historical impact. ROAD TRIP
Dad taking me out of school for ice cream
Flying a kite with dad
Camping w/ Girl Scouts
Driving anywhere just singing songs!
ETA: Family Game Night
ETA#2: (but I will never let AJ do this) staying out until it started to get dark, playing with the neighborhood kids. Days were simpler back then, especially on base.

Re: Your Own Childhood memories
i'm actually sad when i think of some of the things DS won't be able to do that i did. but i know he'll have his own favorite memories and new things he'll enjoy doing.
some of the similar ones we'll share: mom used to tell me bedtime stories. DS and i read books before bedtime.
being allowed to draw on my wall. for now, he has a jungle mural but when he's older it's his room.
i always had pets around, and so will he.
grandparents were close and we visited each weekend. same for DS.
i'm sorry he'll miss being outside with his friends without supervision, big family holiday dinners, and other special events we just can't re-create.
