Cake help - QUICK!

Trying to make a cake for DH's b-day. It calls for instant chocolate pudding. problem is I only have the cook & serve or vanilla instant pudding. It is a chocolate cake. Do you think I could use one of these in it's place?Chat Icon

Re: Cake help - QUICK!

I would go with the vanilla. Aren't you putting vanilla extract in anyway?

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking, or maybe I should just try a different recipe. No Vanilla extract. This is what I was going to try:

Ingredients

1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, mix together the cake and pudding mixes, sour cream, oil, beaten eggs and water. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour batter into a well greased 12 cup bundt pan.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until top is springy to the touch and a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool cake thoroughly in pan at least an hour and a half before inverting onto a plate If desired, dust the cake with powdered sugar.

Re: Cake help - QUICK!

The pudding is probably just to add some moistness. I would use the vanilla since the cook one probably is a different texture. Chocolate and vanilla taste good together, too!

Thanks ladies, I got too scared it wouldn't taste good so I went with the recipe on the Hershey's Cocoa instead. Going to make a marshmallow frosting for it. I appreciate the advice!
