Best bottles for spit-up babies/ adding rice cereal?
I'm going to lose my mind over here, DD spits up SO much. Everyday I'm covered. She is on Alimentum so that isn't helping since it's so thin. I've been adding rice cereal to the bottles, but I have to be careful because it has been starting to constipate her (I'm getting oatmeal today). Anyway, I can't figure out what nipple to use for the Dr. Browns. The Level 2's seem too slow for her and the Level 3's seem way too fast. I don't know if its the bottle or not, but is there a bottle that does better with cereal then others? It has decreased the spit up a little so I need to keep doing it (even though it's a PITA). I have the drop-ins but I would rather use a bottle that doesn't have a disposable piece! Thanks

How much cereal are you adding to how many oz of formula? Dd is on 3 heaping tsps of oatmeal to 7 oz of Alimentum and it had worked wonders! We skipped the rice cereal because I was afraid of constipation. I use the born free bottles for her, level three nipples which are a faster flow than dr. brown's (we have those bottles too). My sister used the y-cut dr. browns nipples but I think they flow faster than the level three.

I'm giving her 2 tsp of rice cereal in 5 oz of Alimentum and that seems to be doing the trick, hopefully the oatmeal is the same consistency. Are the Born Free bottles better with cereal then the Dr. Browns? I feel like it gets clogged in the brown piece.

Really?? I used a level 3 nipple and put 3-4 tablespoons of oatmeal/cereal in DS's bottle when we were dealing with acid reflux and it was totally fine. Maybe try the Y cut?

We used Avent bottles normally, but for those feelings with cereal we used dr browns Y cut nipples. They are VERY fast and i would only let DD suck once or twice then take it out of her mouth. Then repeat till bottle was done. We only used oatmeal, and it would clog any regular nipple size 2 or 3. The Y cut will let the thickened formula/cereal flow very easily.

Yeah the level 3 is too fast, that's the problem. The Y-cut would be WAY too fast! I could add more cereal, but was nervous about her getting constipated. Just got oatmeal and a ventaire bottle to try out with fast flow nipple so I'll see how that works.

I would try a level 2 nipple or stick with a level 3 and just add more oatmeal/cereal. We alternated between oatmeal and cereal and that fixed the constipation problem. My ped said you can also add a little prune juice if they start to get constipated - 1 oz My ped said tsp isn't going to do anything - you need to add tablespoons to thicken up the bottle - but you shoudl ask your ped because our issue was reflux not spit up Good luck!

Oh yeah, she has reflux too and the ped has said in the past I could try it. I was just too nervous to mess with her system since she was on meds and was doing ok on the alimentum. She seems to have gotten worse with the spitting up recently though which is why I wanted to try this now. But the reflux is controlled, she isn't screaming when she spits. It's just a "laundry issue"
