Do most babies start rice cereal @ 4 months?
Just curious. We have their 4mo appt next Friday so I'm curious if he'll let me start them on it.

yes.
my youngest started oatmeal at 4 months. she was already getting rice in her bottles due to reflux.

With both my kids, we did not start them until 6 months per my ped recommendation.

We started all cereals at 4 months. DId those for 3 days each, then right away added fruit. At 5 months we introduced vegetables, my ped said green first.

more and more are starting now at 6 months! It really isn't necessary....it is more for experimentation!
I started both my DCs at 6 months!

No, not necessarily. DS started with oatmeal because of his constipation issues, but not until 6 months in line with AAP recommendations.

nope, didn't start till after 6 months. I tried at 4 months and he wasn't ready. Ped said to wait and 4 mons is still early

Surprise surprise..I started DS on rice cereal at 2 1/2 months! Latinos' don't go by what dr say but what we feel our kid(s) are ready for and can handle... i'm starting stage 1 next week when he'll be 4 months.

We will find out tomorrow when we bring DD for her appt, but at her last the ped said we would be talking food with a spoon at this visit. We already started putting rice in 2 of her bottles hoping it would get her to sleep better. She has no problems with eating, up til this point, so we will probably start something if the dr says because I just don't think the formula satisfies her.

I'm Latina and it's true that it's customary for many Latino families babies to start solids way sooner than the AAP recommends. That said, DS started solids at 6 months. I tried at 4 months and 5 months, but he wasn't ready so I waited til 6 months.

I started oatmeal at 4 months. Skipped rice because of constipation. It all depends on your Ped.

I'm gonna give it a shot next week at 4 months & see if he's ready if not will try again at 5 months but he's a meatball & always hungry

No. We skipped ALL baby foods. We waited until the girls could pick up food and feed themselves pieces of table foods. They were 7 and 8 months old when they started doing this.

I tried @ 4 months but I stopped, I didn"t think it was worthwhile. I give DD somre table food (banana, sweet potato). I posted this article last week:

Depends on the ped. Mine said anywhere from 4-6 months to start.
DD#2 has pooping issues so we actually started with oatmeal instead cause rice can be binding.

DD started at 4 months because my babysitter at the time pushed the issue.
I plan to have DS wait until 6 months. IMO there's no need to start them early.

Yes my Latin mother was putting cereal in my bottle at 4 wks!  I however waited until 6mths for both my girls, they were both satisfied with BM alone until then. Plus IMO feeding them is so much easier before you start introducing solids, that's when life starts becoming messy!

one dd started rice in bottle at 3 months, the other dd started at 4 mos and he said to start as cereal in a bowl at 5 mos

DS satrted on rice cereal at 3 months b/c he was drinking so much throughout te day then at 4 months, he started stage 1 on baby food- the fruits & veggies

Most people follow their peds recommendation. My says 6mos which I didn't realize. He told me to start at 4mos with DS and still hasn't told me to start with DD so when I asked he said 6mos unless the baby is a very poor sleeper then he'll say you can start earlier. I have tried a few solids with DD, but she is totally uninterested.
