Benadryl question
My 8 month old DD has a rash all over her body and was seen today by the pediatrician. She's on amoxicillian for an ear infection (finished 8 days of the medicine) and although the doctor doesn't think it's a reaction from the medication I'm not so sure. I called again tonight because I was scared to give another dose of the medication. She suggested to skip tonights dose and give her Benadryl. She said about a 1/2 teaspoon (my DD is about 17 lbs.)
Of course when my husband gets home with it and reads the box it says don't use at all if under 2 so I called the pharmacy and they said as long as the doctor approves it it's okay. My concern is that the dose for ages 6 and up is 1 to 2 teaspoons so does 1/2 a teaspoon seem like a lot for a 8 month old?
Has anyone given it to their baby and if yes how much? Thanks! I really don't want to call back the doctor.

Re: Benadryl question
I can't help you which how much to give, I think you should contact the Doc. My DS has an ear infection (found out today) we have the same medication. The Doc did say that most likely he will develop a rash so she prescribed something (compound) but it will not ready until late tomorrow. He point of the visit was about his diaper rash which turned out to be a yeast infection, then we found out about the ear infection as well.

Re: Benadryl question
hey there!
we went thru the same thing w/ DS! he has a slight ear infection and the Dr. gave him Amox. guess what?! the morning of DS being on it (lst day of treatment). I woke him up and found him covered in red bumps all over his neck, chest, legs... later in the day it spread to his lips & ears! i was horrified! I rushed him to our ped. & they confirmed that he is allergic to amox. they recommended OTC Benadryl and I gave him a tsp per dose every 4-6 hrs. and he was fine. it made him drowsy so i gave it to him around naptime and bedtime. btw- DS is 21mts.
I hope DC feels better!

Re: Benadryl question
half a teaspoon is right. benedryl is a staple in our household, my ds has horrible allergies and i have used it on dd a few times who is 16 months. also what did the rash look like? my ds is allergic to omnicef and he had a severe reaction to it. he had welts all over his body.
