If I was going to tip them this is good information to have.
If I wasn't going to tip them then I just throw it out and they have contributed to their own workload.
Fine by me.

We get a card year and it just asks not to leave a tip attached to the garbage can because they have been taken in the past. Out sanitation guys are great and I leave out so many empty amazon boxes this time of year that I make sure to tip them.
If we have to work on their collection day we take it in turns going in late that day and leave a note asking them to come to the front door for their holiday gift.

I think it's fine. I know it's their job but my garbage men take way more than they should when we have garbage. We do a lot of house projects that produce a lot of trash. They go above and beyond. I know in some towns, you are only allowed so much trash but where I am apparently skies the limit. I am so thankful when they take it all. So in my eyes, they deserve a little extra and I am happy that I can send it somewhere to make sure they get it.

Same here. We get a card every year, but it doesn't say anything about tips. I usually have to give it to them after christmas when I'm actually home.

I would actually appreciate that. I end up running out of the house in the am waiting for them and hoping I catch them.
I have great garbage guys..love them.
Honestly though they are only doing that so if you do leave something for them they actually get it and it doesn't get stolen.
That would suck.

I am lucky I have great guys. They always take everything and we just moved in to our house, there were a few times where I was shocked that they took everything!

im not sure the rules on the island..but i can tell u in the city there r not allowed to take tips..
dh is dsny and we know plenty of people who have gotten in trouble for taking it..there is even undercoversd who stake out blocks to see who gets tips..crazy but true..
the only thing i can think as to why they did this is to maybe tape it onto the can so it would be easier and lees obvious to take as oppose to someone handing it out?
im not sure.. all i do know is with snow coming on sat i know my dsny hubby will be woking on christmas and its those times why we tip our guys
yes i know its the job and noone is forced to tip but we do just cause i know how long and hard they do work when it snows and it dont matter what day of the week or holiday it is they will be working 16 hour days

I will note that for two weeks we left something out on the curb... they came four times and didn't take it away.
The day they left their 'holiday greetings' they took the box away.
I threw the card in the garbage.
I don't know the exact situation or any details... but I do know that sometimes they have certain trucks for only specific types of garbage.... so they may have had to wait a little bit until they had a different truck to pick up whatever it if you left out there.
Not sure if this applies specifically... just wanted to let you know that they can't always just take every random thing...
