Receiving postcard of "Holiday Greetings" from your garbage men, with a line or two on it that states where is best location to leave their holiday tip.

I will note that for two weeks we left something out on the curb... they came four times and didn't take it away.

The day they left their 'holiday greetings' they took the box away.

I threw the card in the garbage.

nervy .. in my opinion. Holidays tips are a GREAT gesture, but they shouldn't be expected so presumptuously!

Wasn't there a thread just the other day about where and how to tip the garbage men? These guys are just letting you know. You don't have to leave one if you don't want.

I'm happy to have it. I'm never home when the garbage is collected, so I have no idea how many people come by, or what their names are.
Now I know their names, and I can leave a card and a small gift for all of them.
I love our garbage men though....they help us out!

I would actually appreciate that. I end up running out of the house in the am waiting for them and hoping I catch them.

I have great garbage guys..love them.

Honestly though they are only doing that so if you do leave something for them they actually get it and it doesn't get stolen.

Pretty nervy to be that blunt about it. My newspaper paper delivery person used to do the same thing. He actually put a self addressed envelope in with the Christmas so we could mail him the ti.

Yeah we get that too. Doesn't make me all that eager to give them anything, not that I was planning on it anyway.

Ballsy. But only because my garbagemen don't take my garbage half the time.

I've noticed lately they've been better about it. I'm going to leave boxes tonight and see if they take them, hahha.

My newspaper guy always delivers my paper, even when I leave for the airport at 530 am...I don't have an issue tipping him...but the garbagemen here are total d!cks. Broken cans, halfway down the block, and thats if they decide to take the garbage at all.

I would be irritated to receive that, but my garbage guys never get out of the truck, there is a mechanical arm that picks up the can and dumps it in the truck.

I love our garage men. They even stall in front of the house to give my kids time to get to the window. It made my ds's week that they came to the door and handed him the holiday card. It was so cute. He yelled thank you and walked around with the card showing everyone who would look. We are giving them a tip from the kids. Ds is very excited to give it to them.

if a card like that arrives in my mailbox, I will simply take a red pen - write back, "Your 'Tip' will be left on our curb, just like the rest of the garbage you don't pick up..."

My garbage men take all of our stuff and we are constantly doing house projects that create a ton of debris. They come before 5am and there's no way I can ever make it out there to catch them.

Eh. I think they can't win either way. Some people WANT to tip them and they cannot get it to them. Some people want to tip them, DO tip them and it gets stolen, lost, etc. So I think it's ok...not ballsy, perfectly fine to send out the card. I got one and I plan to tip.

I find it presumptious and a bit ballsy...I haven't gotten anything from my garbage guys, but my newsday carrier gives me a gratuity envelope at least once a week...this week it was a holiday card...

I think it's a good idea. We got one at our house. It never demanded, or even asked for a tip. Just asking us not to put it under the garbage lid cover, since it often gets stolen. Ours never did actually give an alternate suggestion, though...

It would be ballsy to knock on your door asking for a tip, but I think it's a great idea to say "If you don't want your money to be stolen, you should do this instead...."

wow..are they even technically allowed to take tips??


a few years back DH's cousin in staten island called 311 to complain b/c sanitation wouldnt take her tree after xmas. they were taking everyone else's but kept leaving hers on the curb. she asked one of her neighbors and they said "did you tip them for xmas" and she said no.

She even asked the garbage men herself when they came by and they hinted to a tip as well. thats when she called 311 and got some information.

I believe she got into an argument with the sanitation guys about it and used whatever info 311 gave her and the sanitation guys took her tree.

if it was worded a bit less demanding i have no issue. I mean how else are you going to give it to them unless you happen to be home when they arrive.

i say it is ballsy because its like they are expecting a tip.... my newspaper guy did this and we did tip him because we think he does a good job, but our garbage men personally we are not tipping because they are "prima donnas" when it comes to taking garbage..
