Baby is not tolerating solids :( Please help!
My 51/2 month old had been getting better about sleeping through the night for the last few weeks, but has been inconsistent. Her ped appointment was Monday, and the doctor suggested I feed her more rice cereal. I had been doing it once/day every few days (as a working mom, I was being bad about giving it to her). I was mixing 1 tbsp with formula and she seemed to be tolerating it well.
After the ped visit on Monday, I started giving her 2 tbsp twice a day. Two nights ago she was very fussy at night (I attributed it to the shots), but last night she was AWFUL - worse than she was as a newborn. She was up with shrill cries all night!
Is this teething (the doctor saw no evidence of it) or fussiness from the cereal? I think I will stop giving it to her to see if there is a difference, but then when would I start with it again? She is eating so much. I couldn't keep up with her breastfeeding and had to add formula and now I really wanted to add solids....but not if it is making her uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

Has she been pooping regularly? Rice cereal can be binding.
Maybe try oatmeal or add in a fruit like prunes or pears?

Oh that rice cereal is the devil! Gave my DD gas and constipation! I don't even know why they suggest it at all. Switch to oatmeal or barley. That should help!

we completely skipped rice cereal, because I've heard too many stories about it upsetting babies' tummies.
try otameal or barley definitely!

we did the same with my youngest & at first he was ok with it. then I noticed the fussiness setting in so I switched to oatmeal & he is happy again.

My ped said no rice! We did oatmeal for a few days then started adding apple sauce. Why dont you skip the cereal in the bottle and go straight to feeding?

we go straight to oatmeal but even that constipates DD2 terribly! I skip it unless my homemade food needs some thickening. I just give fruit in the am and veggies in the pm. we're probably starting yogurt soon (DD1 got it at 6 months also).
