First, I am so sorry you are going through this. It is so scary.

Second, I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks, which showed a large cyst on the umbilical cord. This cyst is a marker for a whole bunch of problems like Trisomy 13,16 and 18. I freaked out to say the least. My decision was not to terminate no matter what, but I did have another ultrasound at 15 weeks to see what was going on with the baby. Thank God everything was fine.

I was told that a lot of times early in the pregnancy all the organs are still on the outside of the body, so there is a lot of room for error on the part of doctors and such. Until the organs have gone into the body, they can't really determine what the problems is, if there is one and what the prognosis is.

I can only offer this... A family friend went for a sono toward the end of her pregnancy and they saw a mass on the baby's kidney. They feared he would be born with limited or no function and worried that they couldn't put such a small baby on dialysis because that could kill him. Fast forward... The baby was born and they had a neonatal nephrologist in the room - everything was and still is just fine. There is still a mass on his kidney that they have watched and left there. He is a perfect, smart, healthy baby and will be two in December.

May your miracle be just around the corner.

I had my baby 6 months ago and I was seeing a perinatologist through winthrop they were great, but I also saw one at Columbia. They were amazing...well worth the drive in. I ended up delivering at columbia bc he needed surgery.

Dr. Victor Klein in Great Neck is a top maternal and fetal medicine specialist. He specializes in high risk pregnancies. GL!

First off, so sorry to hear this, you must be so worried.
Speaking from firsthand experience, I know how scary this may be. Our son was diagnosed with a heart defect at 20 weeks and we were immediately referred to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC. I mention them because their Morgan Stanley's Children's hospital deals with a wide range of children's and baby's illnesses. They might be a help.

I so agree with the other's in getting a second opionion. I know how frustrated you must be but I think the primary reason they are unsure of what to say is because it is so early for them to take an in depth look at things. It really really sux but unfortunately that is usually the case.

I will be keeping you in my prayers.

I am so very sorry for your loss and for your pain...both physically and emotionally.

You will be wonderful parents and I pray that you welcome a healthy happy child someday soon...please don't give up that hope. In my eyes you are very much a mother already...you made a decision out of love and compassion for your child. Only a mother could make such a hard decision...that sacrifice.
