Asi f last week wasnt bad enough, i just found out its going to be really hard for me to have babies...
I have an abnormality in my uterus that my mother and i found out when i was 17 bc one night we went to the ER bc i was having severe cramps and they did a sonogram...
Ive been to two prominent GYNs since(one affiliated with Winthrop, the other with NSUH) and all they ever said was that I may be prone to ectoptic pregnancies but maybe not...
My mother recently started working for high risk and she told her boss what i had in passing conversation...She asked if i had reconstructive surgery?!?!
NO ONE ever told me this.
I made an emergency appt to this GYN and this is my story
If i stay as is, i have a significant chance of multiple miscarriages 80%; 50% chance of still birth
with reconstructive surgery
20% chance of multiple miscarriages; still birth very low
but i would be weak and be on bed rest all 9 months and def have a c section...
with the surgery, i need to be out for weeks,WHY COULDNT ANYONE HAVE TOLD ME THIS BEFORE WHEN I WAS 17 AND HAD ALL THE TIME OF THE WORLD....
im going for another consultation to someone else this week
ahhh the joys of being a female....
I DIDNT PUT THIS ON TTC BC IM NOT TRYING TO HAVE KIDS ANY TIME SOON

Oh no Jess...
Don't give up hope! A ob/gyn that I used to go to told me that I might have trouble having kids one day too. Obviously I didn't have a problem.
Get more opinions...

i am def going for more opinions
but ive been googling what i have and the stories ive been reading are heartwrenching
"TTC for 7 years 7 miscarriages, 1 still birth" is one example

i dont know what to say to be hoenst, but i hope that it works out for you.
are you going to get the surgery do you think?

My sister was told that she would have a difficult time getting and staying pregnant as well.
She's pregnant with her first and due in September! And she didn't have any trouble conceiving!
They're not always right about those things

Is it a septated uterus? You'd be amazed at the bodies' ability to heal. If I was you i would go for a surgery consult ASAP and do the surgery ASAP if you do decide to do it.

I am so sorry to hear this.
When I was around the same age - 2 doctors told me that i had an abnormally small uterus and I probably wouldn't be able to carry a baby to term.
Well 2 pgs later, one being twins, I did fine.

my first cousin was told something similar. when we found out, i offered to carry any and all babies she would ever want.
let me just say, she had a honeymoon baby followed by two more.
the woman is the mother of three healthy girls.
i wish you all the best in your search for the answers that are best for you and your health.

yes i have a septated uterus and an abnormally small uterus
2 problems in one
i believe a normal person needs to be out around 2 weeks post surgery. She recommended 3-3.5 weeks for some reason and that patients usually go home same day or following day...
are you a nurse or doctor?

my Mom was told she couldn't have childern either- and that if she did they would all be high risk
well- she had 3- got prego all 3 times no problem and worked up until the day we were born
and we are all healthy

Nope but I have had multiple losses-not because of this but in doing research have found this. Are you sure this can't be done with laproscopic surgery. I recently had lapro and had a tube removed. I would also think they could enter through the uterus and remove the septum with lapro tools. I would seek a second opinion. The Dr that did mine(again not the same issue) was very good.
As far as teh small uterus-the ujterus is a muscle that can go from the size of a lemon to the size of a watermelon during pregnancy. Def. go for a 2nd opinion.

Oh Jessica, I'm sorry that you got bad news but better that you found out now while you are still young and can plan ahead how you want to approach this. Get lots of opinions and always remember that Drs can always be wrong about these things... and I bet they are.

My friend had something called a Bicornate uterus. Is that what it is?
If its a septate uterus, that does have to be repaired I think.
She was told she would have a problem but did not at all. Delivered a healthy baby only about a week or so early. She was on bedrest for some time.
You may not have a problem. You just never know. It just sucks to know something like this, esp when you arent ready to even try.
I would personally have the surgery if you do plan to ttc in the future.
