Asbestos?!
Hi All- We have been living in our new house for about a year now. My husband just got around to taking down our basement ceiling, and he thinks we have asbestos in the pipes in the ceiling! I'm so upset, I don't know where to begin to try to fix this. We have a baby, and I'm worried we're all breathing this in now.
Does anyone have experience with asbestos in their house? Is it something that is probably in all of our ceilings, or just the basement? Are there any reputable companies that would be able to determine if/where we have it, and how much it would cost to remove? TIA!

Re: Asbestos?!
Don't be upset just yet.
If it is intact, not crumbled or broken, you aren't breathing in anything. It is not a hazard until broken or disturbed and then particles would release into the air.

Re: Asbestos?!
Most old houses have asbestos. It isn't a big deal as long as it is contained properly.

Re: Asbestos?!
If you are disturbing the pipes ie: ripping things down, renovating, cutting..then you should have the house inspected.
If you are NOT disturbing anything then you don't have a problem.
