Are there any smokers or former smokers TTC??

How did you quit and/or when are you planing on quitting? Im cutting down and going to get the patch soon and the lazer therapy.
Is the patch safe while TTC???

i didnt quit before ttc because i became PG right away.. i stopped as soon as i got that plus sign on the pg test and i have to admidt it was hard but after the 1st week i was better.. when i had my mc i swore i wasnt going to start smoking again but i did and more than i smoked b4 but the last 2 months i have started to cut down and i am down to a few cigs a day so within the next few weeks i would like to be down to zero a day.. cold turkey just doesnt work for me so i felt the best way for me to quit was slowly

Thanks for your reply. So you didn't use the patch? that's great!!! I hope im strong enough to quit clold turkey. Im going to a friend who does the lazer therapy too. We'll see!!

yea i wasnt into trying the patch

i had a friend that did something behind the ear and she never picked up a cig again is that the laser?

I had tried to use the patch in teh past and had a bad reaction to it, itmade my heart race and my muscle sore (whatever muscle was below where the patch was that day). I really have no idea if it is safe to use while TTC, I'd ask your Dr.

I quit before TTC, I honestly don't know how I did it, I was really afraid beforehand that I wouldn't be able to stop, but somehow I set my quit date as 2 weeks before O and i just stopped. Don't get me wrong, I still wanted to smoke, but somehow the want for a baby was strong enough to keep my cravings in check.

I quit cold turkey 3 1/2 years ago after smoking for 15 years (I started reallllly young). I had been cutting down a lot for about a year or two, but it was after a scary visit to a doctor that I gave it up completely. I left his office, lit up my last cig & that was it. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't easy & I did grub them on occassion after I quit, but I've managed to stay off of them so far. Even now, some days it's tough - after my m/c I almost picked it up again too...that was probably the hardest time I had, but I made it through. Quitting is probably going to be one of hardest things that you ever have to do, but it will be sooooo worth it so don't give up - you can do it. I wish you all the best

I smoke a half pack out of stress and I am TTC-i will be using Nicorette after. It is safe-just quit completely when u get the BFP

I just quit cold turkey two months ago. I smoked a half a pack a day - I have never tried quiting before and I have been smoking since HS - 10 years. I never thought I could do it mostly because I really enjoyed smoking (as bad as that sounds). Anyway, I did quit and the first few weeks were hard. I still have my ups and downs and I feel like I will always have an urge once in a while. I also read the book "the easy way to quit smoking" I am not sure if it helped that much but I think it got me thinking about quiting and gave me the motivation.

It was pretty easy for me to quit.... a few days before I got my BFP, the mere smell of a cigarette UN-lit) made he nauseaus (i knew something was up). I haven't had as much as a puff since May '07.

I quit a little over a year before trying and only because I wanted it out of the way and one less thing to worry about while TTC.

I'd DEF try to be done with it BEFORE conceiving if I were you....its pretty stressful on the body to quit and I wouldn't want any added stress put on my baby! JMO

i just quit a few days ago.. cold turkey.. its tough especially since DH smokes a lot.. but so far so good.. good luck

I quit Feb 2007 and got pregnant Oct 2007.

I had said for a while that I wanted to quit just never did. Then one day I woke up, threw out my cigarettes, and never looked back.

I have to say I tried to quit while TTC and it was hard. I quit for a month and when i found out I wasn't preggo again I lit right up and was so ****** because i wasn't. When I found out in July that I was pregnant I gave DH my ciggs to throw out and that was the last time I smoked a cigg. At first it was hard because the smell drove me nuts and I wanted it so bad and at work didn't help. BUt when the MS kicked in, I hated the smell and I still do. DH still smokes and is trying to stop.

I don't crave a cigg anymore and I really hope I stay that way after the baby. GL

I "quit" "everyday" for years which means it didn't work right away and I would always smoke with the longest time not smoking being 3 days (rare) I would buy a pack a day as "my last pack" over and over again until one day i "quit" again and never started again so i don't know my exact quit date - its 3 years ago around the december holidays. so just keep 'quitting' and eventually u'll get sick of trying and just stick to it. also i ve heard that if you smoke ALOT in one day -like chain smoke like crazy to the point of making you sick it might be a way to start stopping for the first few days. and i have several friends who used medication and it helped so much- none went back. i forget what kind though but your doctor should know. ask your doctor about all methods to stop smoking and the risks of using them while ttc because i have no clue. good luck! i still want to smoke at times but it gets easier. change your schedule in any way possible. also you may want to change your smoking habits (where and when for a month before) so your regular routine wont involve smoking anymore for when you quit. and it helps if no one in your house smokes. <3

I quit a few years ago. After years of smoking I just became completely disgusted.
The thing that finally did it was that I really started to feel it....I'd wake up in the night feeling it. THen, one day I was walking down the city street with a cigarette and a stranger looked at me smoking, and I could see by the expression on her face that she was disgusted....totally disgusted. I became embarrassed and ashamed of smoking.
all that, together, got me to quit.
WHen I would have cravings, I'd chew a peice of nicorette.

I never went on the whole nicorette plan, I just chewed a 2mg peice whenever I needed it and it worked.

Once you get through this....you'll feel SO GOOD.

I was a social smoker..but for many years.

I had my first blood hormone test back in May and it was so out of whack. The RE doc told me that I would have to do IVF with donor eggs because he didn't think my egg reserve would be good enough for it.

I quit right then and there because smoking can mess with your hormone levels in a big way.

I actually think, that plus some other things I did got my levels where they needed to be.

All it took was a doctor telling me I couldn't have a kid with my own genetic material. I will never forget that day.

I hope you don't find yourself ever in this position, but sometimes you have a wake up call and just are able to do it. Think about how much healthier you will be and how much better for your body it is to get off the nicotine.

Even now when I'm tempted (and I am for sure) I just remember that awful day.

I'll never go back to it.

Quitting is soo hard. i smoked for 17 years ( i started young) and quit 2 times in between for 3 -4 months. I finally quit for good in december 07. Cold turkey. Easy for me bc i had to get surgery and couldnt really go outside (no smoking in the house dh never smoked) so i just stopped smoking.
Ive had a probally 5 cigarettes since then - couldnt even smoke more than half wihtout feeling sick-.
Its hard, my determination was having a healthy baby!!!
