Anyone else's DC have high fevers for no reason??
This is the second time in 2 weeks that Ian has had 103 fever and no other symptoms (besides a cold). And the 4th time since he's born and he's only 6 months. The doctor keeps telling me "some babies just run high fevers for no reason". Do you think this is true? My mother is panicking and thinks theres something wrong that he's not finding. I just gave him tylenol so I hope that brings it down. Is motrin better?
TIA!

It could be teething related. That teething stuff can be a pain. Fevers, diarrhea, crankiness etc but no actual sickness.

Re: Anyone else's DC have high fevers for no reason??
103 is too high for teething. Generally teething is very low grade fever no higher than 101
My DD has gotten a high fever or two with no other symptoms, however that didnt start happened until she hit 12 months. generally I go to the Dr if its over 48 hours of fever, as per their request-unless of course there are other symptoms or her behavior is off.
How is his behavior? Still smiling, wating drinking etc?
Fever and no other symptoms is usually considered to be smtg viral. Which has to run its course.
If you are worried, go to the Dr and asked to check his ears, throat and also ask to do a blood test and strep test just to see if its anything more. Its probably viral though
Motrin-shouldnt be given until the baby is at least 6 months old, I chose not to give it until my DD was closer to a year.
Please look at the tylenol/motrin recall that just happened-you may want to run out and buy store brand fever reducer instead of giving the tylenol
HTH and hope he feels better soon!

Fevers with no other symptoms in my kids always mean Ear infection is on its way.

yes - while he's much older - a friend of mine's youngest son (he's 9), his NORMAL temp is in the 99-100.something range!
he gets high fevers ALL THE TIME for no reason...but for him - it's 100% normal. it's HECK on his mom, because she never knows if it's just a 'nik' thing or if it's because he's coming down with something!

Re: Anyone else's DC have high fevers for no reason??
thanks guys. DS's fever has been jumping all day and went back up to 103. i went to the store to get rite aid infant motrin version. my tylenol was on the recall!! he only smiled twice today and that was when the fever was down. he is drinking his bottle tho. but he hasn't pooped yet today. i gave him a luke warm bath and he seemed to like it. thats when he smiled. but right after he went back to screaming. then he finally threw up a little of the phlegm he's had. i hope this goes away soon! i hate to see him like this.
my doctor is orthodox so is closed on saturdays (but has a back up doctor). if he still has a fever tomorrow ill bring him in.
