High fevers

We are on day 3 of high fevers. Its been 102-103 Thurs and Fri and at spiked to 104.9 this morning at 3am. (Pediatrician saw him on Friday and said to go to ER when over 104.5) We were in the ER for a few hours and came home with antibiotics for a "possible" ear infection. Tylenol and Motrin are not really working to bring it down and baths are making him have tantrums. I am so worried. Can anyone help? I don't know what I can do. He has been sleeping all day except for 2 hours, he is hot, limp, and twitching.

Re: High fevers

Chat Icon How high is his fever now?
My DS had a bad virus in the winter that lasted 10 days and he had high fevers the whole time. I was a wreck.......finally on day 10 the pediatrician said he had to see a specialist and the next day his fever was down.

My DS had a horrible time with the tepid baths.....he threw a fit and actually made me nervous b/c he acted so out of control. I put tepid/cool compresses on the back of his neck, his wrists and ankles and it helped a little. I gave him ice pops or really anything he would eat that was cool.

I hope he feels better soon for his sake and Mommy's!

Re: High fevers

DD has high fevers for a few days in June. Instead of the ER we took her to PM Pediatrics. It is in Syosset and well worth the trip. They took blood and everything came back fine. They took a urine sample for possible UTI and that came back negative. They said she had a fever virus and to just alternate the motrin/tylenol. Also, he may have coxsakie. Ds had very high fevers for 3-4 days, nothing broke the fever and then the blisters appeared. I hope he starts to feel better. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: High fevers

DD had a 104.9 last Saturday, so I feel your pain! She had Coxsackie virus. Could he have that? DD had sores in her mouth that is how they knew.

Good luck!

Re: High fevers

This happened to DD a few months ago for about 5 days straight. Ped said not to worry unless it went over 105 (which it didn,t but got close). It eventually broke and then a couple days after that she broke out with roseola. They said it was "viral."

Awww Julz! Chat Icon

Jack had a high fever (about 104) for 4 nights straight. The tylenol did nothing, Motrin was the only thing that helped keep it down. Also, if he's having a hard time with the baths, try warm washcloths.

Also - get him to drink as many fluids as possible.

The number of PM pediatrics is 516.677.5437

Re: High fevers

Hope everything is ok...

DS always runs high temps (105-106Chat Icon )

We have been in the hospital twice because of them... It seems thats just how his body reacts to infection...

When they are really high (105-106) I give tylenol and motrin at the same time to know it out... from there tylenol every 4 hrs and motrin every 6.

I also give a warm bath, keep him drinking, and RELAXING!

since he's twitchy already, people have different opinions, but try and keep him out of the tub. I put Josh in a luke warm one, only ankles in and had an instant seizure.

EMS told me never give baths. Their bodies don't adjust at times to the change in temp, sending them into overload.

Josh had a forever fever at that age and it turned out to be rosela.

good luck, fevers are always so draining.
