Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I don't know if its just me but I don't really like having overnight guests. DH's cousin kinda talked his way into visiting us for a weekend and I said yes no prob, thinking that day would never come. Unfortunate for me he asked if he could come this weekend. I don't mind entertaining for the day/evening, but I just feel weird having people stay over.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

no its not like that at all...its with anyone who stays over.

to make it worse I have to pick the kid up at the train station and ask him to call me before he gets on the train so I know when to pick him up so he doesn't have to wait. Instead he gets on the train and DOESNT call. I have to call him and now he tells me that he's not sure he's on the right trainChat Icon

lol sorry for the vent....DH warned me it wasn't a good idea to have him visit.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I don't like it but I think I have a few legit reasons for it... first and foremost being space. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and both bedrooms are occupied!!

Anyone who stays is staying in the living room. We're early risers too (you show me the family with a toddler who aren't early risers!) so I feel uncomfortable making noise in my own home..

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

Yes - I hate it. And I have 2 this weekend. Should be real fun with a newborn in the house. Both of my BILs are coming to town. They'll be bunking in the basement this time since all bedrooms are occupied now.

I feel like they take over and I am a guest in my own house.

And this means, I'll have to keep my bra on 24/7. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't hate it BUT I do stress about cleaning and making sure everything looks sparkly clean. Even when we have people over. I notice every piece of dust when we have company Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I've never had adult overnighters... only nieces and nephews. So for me it is a lot of fun. A TON of work, but worth it since I am close with them.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

For the most part I love it. Though, there are a few I could do without-for the most part I like it, but that's because it gives me a chance to cook a big breakfast, make snacks to eat throughout the day etc (so, it's about the food for me I guessChat Icon )

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

HATE it!!! the problem is... ILs live almost 5 hours away, so when they come they stay for a minimum of 3 nights. our house is set up ok for it, so thats good. we have a finished basement with a guest bedroom and full bathroom down there, so they have their own space... but its still just SO stressful!! I hate all the prep work that goes into it- planning meals, making sure everything is super clean (MIL is a SAHW and does nothing but clean her house all day Chat Icon so i just feel like she expects me to do the same thing! and its just annoying to feel like you can't totall be yourself for 4 days!
my parents live 2 hours away and also stay over when they visit-- but at least i know them better! lol

ITA -- I hate it! Sometimes I feel completely unreasonable, but it just takes away my comfort level for some reason. We also have a pretty small house, so when people do stay over, they are right on top of us.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I cant stand it. We live out of state, so we frequently have visitors who stay for several nights. This last visit, DH's sister thought it was ok to sleep on our new couch all night (without a sheet on the couch), and use the $$ couch throw pillows I just bought as her own pillow to sleep on. I was thrilled to see her makeup on it when they left. Chat Icon

MEanwhile, I have 2 spare bedrooms with very comfy beds, and tv's. But she insisted on the couch. It p!ssed me off!

And I cant stand when you want to go to bed. They look at you like 'you're not going to stay up and entertain me?'. No, sorry I work in the morning --- then keep the tv on all night, so of course I cant get any sleep. So rude.

I get such STRESS when people visit.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I don't hate it, but it isn't my favourite thing. We live far (Frankfurt) so people tend to stay here overnight while they are in transit or they will stay for at least a week if they are visiting. My ILs will be here for a month and a half and I am not looking forward to it. Chat Icon . Thank God they are doing a few trips so it won't be a straight month and a half.

I like having people visit me, but I hate that awkward feeling that I get in my own home. That's what I dislike most.

My family and friends live out of town, so we have over night guests at least once a month, I don't mind it, I like the company.

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

Actually, I LOVE when my family comes to stay over. I think it's more comfy to just hang out and not have to worry about a time for it all to end. We walk upstairs to go to bed when we are tired and get to do it all again in the morning Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else hate having overnight guests?

I HATE HATE HATE to have overnight guests. It upsets everything that I hold sacred - my privacy, my need for downtime, my quiet time, my liberated woman feelings about being a kitchen slave (yes, even if the guests help), the constant mess, the constant noise. The ones who invite themselves are the worst. It's like, "I want to take a vacation, and I want to take it at your house! Entertain me, feed me." I don't want to stay at someone else's house - it's an invasion - AND I wouldn't think of inviting myself - rude to say the least. I did not choose to spend my retirement years running a resort at the nature filled place for which I worked and slaved my entire life. There are plenty of B and B's and Cabins nearby in which you can stay. I will invite you for dinner or to spend some time on the dock or the boat, but PLEASE, go away after a few hours. Oh, and could you kick in for boat gas every once in a while?

Love it, but I'm not from here and I get so excited when I can show my family and friends from home where I live now.
