I don't particularly care for it either. We also have a small house, work F/T and just look forward to having our downtime with people not here.
My parents come down frequently and I think they recently got the hint that they were invading our space because their visits have become shorter and less frequent.
I also only like to have people over if we can entertain them outside because we don't have a dining room and our living room is not finished yet. We just have old furniture in there, so I don't feel comfortable using my home as a place to have guests.
Our kitchen is not finished either.

It depends on who and when, but for the most part it's not a big deal. We don't have "crashers" who are just looking for a bed with their own adgenda for visiting friends so anyone staying here is pretty much coming to see us. We also have an ideal set up for guests - two guest rooms on the main floor with their own bathroom and we're upstairs with our own master bath. Our family room is on the opposite end of the house from our bedroom too, so they can sit in there as late as they want or as early as they want with the TV on and we'll never hear them.

I love when people visit, like when people sleep over (for one night) and hate when people stay for long stays (3-12+ days).
This thread really makes me feel like a lot less of an ogre and a lot more like my feelings are normal

I love having overnight guests! All of my overnight guests that ive had so far (friends and family) have been great guests. If we have a party and a few crash here because they cannot drive, they always wake up early and help clean up the house which is awesome!
