another induce question (poll) what to do???
So I just came back from the dr...38 week check up
so far I'm 3cm dialated and at my 36 week growth sono he was measuring at 7lbs 10oz so he a BIG boy
Dr wanted to discuss dates to induce next week but I told him I wasnt sure so he said make my regular appt for next week and we can discuss it then or I can call him if I change my mind. I told him I was nervous about being induced but I was really nervous about having a 10lb baby (esp seeing as a tore really bad with dd)
WHAT TO DO????
Plus my back has been sooo bad I can barely walk so I really dont know what to do here...I dont know how much more I can take
Update: Just to clarify
I really dont want to be induced and my doctor didn't push it. He just said he would be comfortable inducing at this point if I wanted to. I've had such sever back pain I was in tears and it took 2 people to help me get up off his exam table. (its becoming unbearable) I had 3rd degree tears on top of the episiotomy with my 8lb 11oz dd
I still dont really want to be induced because of the fear of a c-sec. but I'm also scared that he is going to be really big...I know the sonos can be really off but he did look really big and my family has a tendency of growing them big 
I don't know...playing each day as it comes.
I actually convinced dh to do a girl a favor last night made a pot of chili and doing anything I can think of to get things moving
I really do appreciate all the comments I know what I want but I just don't know how much longer I can take

I agree... plus my dr. doesn't even do growth sonos so I never knew how big DD was.

why would they induce??  it doesn't seem like there's any medical reason. 7-10 doesn't sound crazy big at 38 weeks. if hes est. 7-10 he could be as small as 6lbs or as big as 9. my cousin was estimated to have an 8lbs baby and he was born at 40w1d at 6.5lbs. the sono measurements are generally not 100% and i wouldn't induce based on that alone. induction leads to c-section a lot of time because your forcing something the body isnt ready for. many times it works out fine, many other times it does not.
if it were me i would absolutely not induce unless it was medically necessary but as i mentioned on someone else's post yesterday it all depends on your personal level of comfort. if you do it you should be ok with the idea of having a c-section. also i wouldnt have a very rigid birth plan with an induction (or with any birth really  ). just make sure you go into it OK with whatever gets you to your baby. keeping an open mind is very important.

I can't tell you how off they were on my growth sonos.
And I hear it from EVERYONE.
I wouldn't induce unless it was absolutely necessary.
Sometimes I feel like these docs all push inductions so they can plan their schedules rather than getting a call at 2 am that you are in labor.

As someone who had an induction, labor and then a c-section DON'T DO IT! At 3 cms you could go at any time and like all the pp's said growth sonos are just estimates. You can do it!! Just hold out a little longer.

couldn't have said it better myself. unless there is a pressing medical reason (low fluid etc), let nature do its thing

Agreed. One of my friends was told the same thing and threatened with an induction her 32-week appt b/c her doctor said she was going to have a "moose." She wound up giving birth 3 weeks early to a 6lb 14 oz baby. Another had to be induced for pre-e and the process took three days and her labor was miserable. Unless there's a REAL medical reason, let nature do it's thing.

I think this is such a tricky situation. Inductions can definitely increase your risk of a csection but then again a big baby could also. I also know growth sonos are notoriously wrong so that would make me hesitant to induce.
My ds was measuring large as well and my dr refused to induce due to baby's size. DS wound up being even larger than they estimated and i had to have a csection because he was too big to deliver vaginally. Unfortunately I learned that after a long and difficult labor. Despite that, I probably would still avoid an induction if possible. I would have been so upset if my induction led to a csection and he came out being an 8lb baby or something.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I was induced at 39 weeks, 1 day and it went perfectly. I was almost 3cm and had what he called a favorable cervix for induction, being that it was also my second child. I went in for the induction around 12pm and delivered my daughter around 5:30pm. No pitocin necessary. It was honestly less of a process than delivering my son without being induced. In the end, you have to do what you feel confortable with, but I just wanted to give you my perspective from the other side of the coin.

My ob is also pro induction... For a second child with favorable conditions. I went into labor 3 days before. I'm not a ob... But from speaking to mine there are times that inductions work better than others.

I think more important than how dilated you are is how effaced are you? If not much I'd wait. If you are like 80% effaced I would go for the induction.
ETA: I was 2cm dilated when induced and 80% effaced. I started pitocin at around 9am and delivered at almost 11pm. Got epi right away so never felt any terrible contractions. I pushed for 1.5 hrs - DD was 8lbs, 5oz!
ANother story is my sister who was induced was not effaced at all (not sure how dilated)...after 2 12 hours doses of cervadil her cervix still never softened so she had a c-section. That is why I personally believe how effaced you are plays a major role in how successful an induction would be for you.

I was 4 cm when my dr induced me because he was going away for Labor Day weekend. I was also 80% effaced. Needless to say I should have waited. He got tired and I ended up with a cs. I wish I had let nature take it's course.

I dont believe in inducing unless medically necessary, so I wouldn't do it. I would let nature takes it course, and hopefully it will be soon for you since youre 3 cm.
Also, growth sonos are just estimates and usually VERY off. I wouldnt go by that. JMO

I had a similar experience with baby #2. I was induced for no reason other than I was close to my due date and walked into the office at 4cm.
The second delivery was amazingly quick. If your dr suggested it, I would definitely do it.

Ditto! I was induced at 37 weeks with zero dilation or effacement and still delivered vaginally. I had a GREAT experience.

ITA! I was 3 cm at 37 weeks with baby #3 and still ended up going 6 days past my due date. I tore slightly with her(she was 9 lbs 3.7 ozs). Baby#4 was 10 lbs 2 ozs(so bigger) and I didn't tear at all. Each labor is different. I wouldn't force a baby out early just because of fears that might not even happen. Not worth the risks.

I wouldn't induce. I was scheduled for induction and went 2 days earlier. I was also 10 days late.
My doctor said if you can hold off on induction then hold off, he wouldn't let me go past 2 weeks though which is why it was scheduled. A lot of doctors schedule them so it fits in with their schedule (that's what i was told).

I can't understand the reason to induce. 7 pounds is a totally deliverable baby. Your body is meant to do this. You could tear with a 6 pound baby. You could not tear with and 8 pound baby.
Mine was just under 6 and I tore a bunch.
Sounds to me like it would benifit the doctor more than you. I would pissed if a doctor tried to induce me to fit into his schedule. That is what it sounds like he is doing.

That being said I would just let nature take it's course if you are already dilated and not past your due date.
