How long will your dr. wait to induce?

Just curious.

My dr. said she will wait until 2 weeks after my due date if I don't go into labor and the baby is ok in there....I cant imagine being pregnant for another month.

Can I convince her otherwise?

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

If I don't have the baby by tomorrow (my due date), they are scheduling an induction for the following Monday, so 7 days. I think they are pushing it up a bit though, because I had some preclampsia scares and they don't want to take chances of having me pregnant for too much longer.

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

My dr doesn't want me to go too far past my due date. He said it could be 40 weeks and 4 days but he doesn't want me to get to 41 weeks.

I'm hoping to go into labor on my own before my EDD though.

i'm in chicago and my MD said 7 days after the due date. i feel for you. 2 wks. seems like a long time after the due date esp. since these past few wks. of pregnancy have been dragging...

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

I would refuse to go that long. Everything I"ve read indicates the longer the baby is in there past 40 weeks, the more bad things can start happening. I wouldn't go more than a week.

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

This is my second and my Dr. said if I was ready(my body & baby) then he would induce me @ 39 weeks if I wanted.. I'm 38 this week and as of last week I was already 3cm dilated.. so I'm ready.. if I don't go into labor by next week I made the decision to get induced..

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

My doc only waits a week. I was induced with #1 and am now almost one day late! I've been 2cm dilated for like 3 weeks/having contractions and the baby is in position but not much else is going on. He is going to break my water on Fri if this baby doesn't come before then to help move things along. Apparently that should work and I won't need any pitocin so let's hope that's true for me! I don't know anything other than being induced but wanted to avoid the cerv/pitocin if I could this time around. Guess anything can happen in the next few days so we'll see!

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

i asked my doctor this recently and he said he wouldn't let me get to 41 weeks so at some point between 40-41 weeks we'd talk and pick a day.

ok this is pretty much what my dr. does also, I just hope if I have to be induced its closer to the 41w mark and not 42w bc I'm so done already.

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

Depends on the doctor.

But I think if you are showing no signs of progress (dilation or effacement) they will hold off as long as possible on induction. They don't want to run the risk of a failed induction if it can be avoided.

If you are showing signs of progress they may be more apt to starting an induction earlier.

My doctor said he wouldn't even think about it unless there was a medical issue until after 41 weeks. I think he starts doing non stress tests and frequent checks to check on the baby, but he basically doesn't love inductions unless your body is showing some signs of labor.

Re: How long will your dr. wait to induce?

I was told about a week. B/c the hospital was crazy, busy he couldn't get me in sooner so I was scheduled to be induced 10 days late.
Never got to that part. At the hospital DS's HR dropped.
I wound up having a crash c.

I was told sometimes if they go too long as well that the baby can go into distress when the labor does come on. Who knows b/c everyone is different.

With this one I have a scheduled c
