AnnaMaria's Birth Story! July 29th, 2010
I will TRY to make this short!
10PM: contrations 6m apart
3:30AM: water breaks IN BED, contractions are every 2-3 minutes now
4:30AM: get to LIJ, find out I am only 3cm dilated
I ask for the epidural. The contractions are wierd - its not to much the pain, its just very overwhelming, they shut your brain off and its hard to remember you won't feel like that forever.
It took THREE people to try to get the epidural in, I couldn't hunch my back over the right way since she was still so high in my stomach.
I slept for 5 hours, it was wonderful. If you are scared of the epidural - don't be! I could still feel and move my legs, I just couldn't feel pain.
11:30AM: They can't believe it! I am 10cm dilated!
12:30PM: Time to push! And I had an audience! My OB, a resident, chief resident, an intern, two nurses, DH and later on someone from pediatrics.
Pushing is intense. I couldn't feel it at first but then the epidural wore off. It is such an insane urge, its like you have no control over it. I pushed three times for each contraction. My audience helped me count it down.
DH sees her HAIR! She is right there! It will all be over soon. . . .
two hours later I am still pushing. I was so tired. What helped was that in between each contraction I made my whole body go limp, I did deep breathing and closed my eyes and just tried to relax before the next one.
I open my eyes and see everyone all around me. I feel this insane urge to push and everyone is counting down. And I look down and there is a HEAD! I push again and they put this little creature on me. DH and I are hysterical. The whole room is screaming ITS A GIRL! Everyone was so excited!
I have a fever, so she is taken away to the NICU. I feel GREAT at this point. I felt like I could have hopped off the table and walked to my room.
My placenta would not pass. I am kissing DH and they are taking me to the OR. A 15 minute surgery ended up taking almost an hour.
I have a lot of stitches, I don't know exactly what is going on down there but after she sewed me up the resident came over to me and said "I did a really good job, please dont worry its going to be so pretty again" I know that sounds dumb but it was so nice, I felt like hugging her.
I am stuck in recovery until 9PM! I havent eaten, drank or slept in 24 hours! I finally get to see my little girl!
I forget all about it. It was worth it. EVERY SINGLE SECOND was worth it. She is perfection.
It was tough being in the hospital. The NICU is in a different building and I had to use a wheelchair. I was trying to BF, pump and see my family - it was insane.
Okay, so there is my story! I was talking about having more kids while I was still on the table. Pushing for three hours was traumatic, mentally and physically but I would have pushed for three more to have that experience when they pulled her out and I saw her for the first time.

I am all teary eyed right now! I am sorry it was a rough delivery, but so glad you both are doing well.

WELL that was Anthony, "BA" or Before AnnaMaria. Anthony, "AA" or After AnnaMaria.
Anthony BA:
Swore he would never look
didnt know his wife ever had gas in her life
refused to hold babies before they were 3 months old
Anthony AA:
looked, the whole time and says it was the most amazing experience of his life
ran out to the pharmacy in the middle of the night to get me stool softener and that cleansing bottle b/c I was crying and terrified to "go"
sobbed hysterically in a room full of people b/c he had to hold her for a very long and horrible blood test
