Active Toddlers and Naps

How much running around does your LO have to do before a nap? On crummy days out like today, are you walking alot - physical activities?

I'm having trouble with naps with DS - he's 2 and I'm wondering if I'm not getting him enough activity. This am we went for a long walk and did a crafts project and he still didn't nap - now he's overtired.

Re: Active Toddlers and Naps

My 2.5 year old has speech in the am for 45 mins 2x a week. But after that, we usually play in the yard as long as its not raining, then around 1230, we go for a walk & he falls asleep. There are days that no matter what, he won't nap.

Both my boys run around the house though from.the time they are up, usually 6am until naptime.

Re: Active Toddlers and Naps

My 2.5yr old DS is on his feet all day. He keeps himself busy just playing with his toys. He naps around the same time everyday, for 2-2.5 hrs, and it doesn't matter if we go outside or not, he's tired and falls asleep easily.

Nightime is a different story. The days we don't spend enough time outside playing or keeping him really busy, it takes him longer to fall asleep. As it is he's falling asleep closer to 9:30 bc he's just not tired after that long nap. But, he needs the nap and can't really make it through the day without one.

DD is 20 months old and has always been horrible with naps. She thinks she's going to miss something so fights it. At daycare, she's fine and I think it's because the other kids will nap or have quiet time but at home she gets overtired.

Bumping for more responses. Its so helpful to hear these responses - to know I'm nto alone in this and that naps are a pain in the butt!

I could have written this except my DS is a little younger.
