when would you cut you toddlers naps off?

my dc doesn't sleep much at night, usually 8-10 hours but he's a napping machine. i've shortened and cut off the naps but the nights are the same.

so he naps between 2-3ish hours during the day. right now he's going 3 hours 10 minutes. he falls asleep the same time at night so that isn't effected.

when would you cut the nap off? or would you let your dc sleep until they wake up on their own?

editted to add: i ment cut the nap short after 3ish hours of napping not stopping naps all together...that would kill me! i LOVE LOVE LOVE his nap and i need iit more than him at this point!Chat Icon

I think at our DCs age that 8-10 hours is fine, isn't it?

I never wake DS from a nap though...

Do not screw around with naps! Its their total number of hours they sleep that matter, not when, according to my Dr.

I Chat Icon naps!

Found this for you

The American Academy of Pediatrics Guide to Your Child's Sleep provides some helpful guidelines regarding just how much sleep children need at different stages in their development. Keep in mind that these numbers reflect total sleep hours in a 24-hour period. So if your son still naps, you'll need to take that into account when you add up his typical sleep hours.

Between Birth-Six Months, children need 16-20 hours
Between Six-Twelve Months, children need 14-15 hours
Between Ages 1-3, children need 10-13 hours
Between Ages 3-10, children need 10-12 hours
Between Ages 11-12, children need about 10 hours
Teenagers need about 9 hours of sleep per night

DD naps for 2 hrs and then goes to bed 9-930 and wakes at 745 every day. I wouldnt dream of shortening her nap, especially with #2 on the way.

I never wake him from a nap. Sometimes his naps are an hour longer than they usually are. I figure he needs it. Helps me get some cleaning and LIF done! Chat Icon

MY DS generally sleeps about 10 hr w/ 1 2 to 2-1/2 hour nap at daycare. He's really always slept about 10 hours no matter what his napping schedule. I'm happy he takes such a nice long nap at day care. He's a mess on the days that he doesn't.

Re: when would you cut you toddlers naps off?

Emma sleeps for 12 hours, usually 8pm to 8am, or 7pm to 7am. I wouldn't cut the naps out. If you cut the naps that could mess up the sleeping at night. I know that when Emma doesn't nap, she doesn't sleep well at night.

Re: when would you cut you toddlers naps off?

My DD is 2.5 and rarely naps. She sleeps 11-12 hours at night but if she naps, she won't go to bed until 10 or 11! I wish she still went to bed on time and woke up earlier but that is just not her. I miss the naps!!!! If you happy with it and DC is on a good routine, I wouldn't mess with it.
