? about Mail Carrier gifts...

I give my mail carrier $20 every Christmas. But I keep reading that they are not allowed to except cash gifts. He has obviously never said anything and happily excepts it, but I'm just curious, what do you all give him/her?

Re: ? about Mail Carrier gifts...

of course he's not going to say anything!! Chat Icon I have a very good friend that works for the postal service who once sent me a copy of their policy on gifts. They are not allowed to accept cash gifts, but they can accept gift certificates of I think under $20.

We've done $25 gift cards or gift collections such as box of godiva chocolate, starbuch gift basket, etc

For garbage men we do an assortment of giftcards and let them decide which one each wants. This year we did Home Depot, Quiznos and Best Buy

From experience, they will accept it and will look at it as an EXTREMELY GENEROUS GIFT!

just as an fyi... I have a very good friend that works in management for the postal service. Holiday tips are not generally overlooked by the "higher ups" and if caught, it's grounds for termination.

Of course the mail carrier is going to take it.

However, they are allowed to accept GC under $20. Just no cash gifts.

Re: ? about Mail Carrier gifts...

We gave a bottle of wine to our mail carrier and he gave us such a nice card. Next year, I'll make it an even nicer bottle.

$20 Starbucks gift card although I left it in the mailbox and he didn't take it today. Chat Icon
If it's still there tomorrow I'll assume he's going to play by the rules. We have temps out here so it's not the same guy as last year.

We have a new carrier, so I gave him $40 in cash this year. I've given more to my former carrier in past years (he was a tad nosey, but he always went above and beyond.)

I so wish I had a chance to tip the UPS guy because he's here often (my DH cringes whenever "brown" shows up Chat Icon ) and a lot of the time they're heavy packages.. Unfortunately I don't know who my guy is because they have holiday crews out now.

Re: ? about Mail Carrier gifts...

We've been in our house for barely four months and have had nothing but problems and issues. I am not giving our mail carrier one red cent - esp since they have those little trucks and just drive straight up to your mailbox.

I want to give UPS guy something - we've gotten so so many packages with people sending stuff for my shower, etc - never see him though.
