A Rescue Story! *PICS posted - Pg. 2*
Rudy has been saved... Just in time for Christmas!!
A woman named Arlene from Little Shelter is who I left a message for this morning and perhaps who IrishLass had spoken with also?? Thank you, by the way!! She returned my call this morning while I was at work and told me that this dog happens to be very lucky because he is located in Smithtown - she knows the head of the Town shelter in Smithtown and said they are a WONDERFUL shelter who will never put a dog down unless it is EXTREMELY aggressive. They are dedicated too!
So, I called over to her contact there - George - and spoke with him. He, in a matter of 30 minutes, was over at the restaurant and the owners (SHAME ON THEM!!!!!) immediately signed the dog over to George and the shelter. He called me back to tell me that RUDY (I named him lol) was there and in great spirits. My sister and I were so worried we were going to go there and get him right after work but once George stepped in we didn't have to. He will have great care at the shelter and a nice, warm place to stay until he gets adopted which shouldn't be long because he is SO friendly.
What my sister and I did do was chip in to get him a day of beauty at the Grooming Salon we take our dogs to!! Bark Avenue on the Ronkonkoma/Nesconset border stepped in and gave us a GREAT discounted rate to give Rudy a bath, a full cut (shave down because he was so bad), nails, ears, teeth, the WORKS!!!! It is like he's born again! The owner at Bark Avenue said he is WONDERFUL and SUPER friendly... sat there the whole time and let everyone work on him. He said Rudy's nails seem like they were never cut! He was matted and a mess - stunk to high heaven! So, my sister and I will be going there right when she gets home to pay him - THANKS FOR THE DISCOUNT Bark Avenue!!! and the shelter should be picking Rudy up -- then, my sister and I are going to go visit him before the shelter closes to give him some toys, see how he came out and make sure he is comfortable in his temporary home.
The groomer is going to spread the word to his clients about Rudy to see if anyone wants to adopt him, a great woman I spoke with who heads up a Newfie rescue (when I mistakenly thought Rudy was a Newfie) even offered to help spread the word in order to get him adopted. My sister and I figured a day of beauty will help his chances and AT LEAST help him feel better!!! Turns out, thank you Janet, Rudy is a Great Pyranees... They are like Newfies but white. We read up on them and apparently they are very gentle, smart, sweet dogs!
This feels so good - Jenn and I have been smiling ALL day!!
Thank you to everyone here for all of your help and, of course, to Arlene at Little Shelter for the referral and especially George at Smithtown Town Animal Shelter!!!!
He's going to have a great life ladies!!!

Re: A Rescue Story!
That is totally awesome!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad he's going to have a better life. I had a toy I was going to give Brinkley but decided against it, I'm going to stop by the shelter and give it to him instead. And as long as I'm there, see if I can do anything else for Rudy and for the shelter.
Dani, you are an amazing person. I think it's wonderful what you did, and that it's such a great solution.

Re: A Rescue Story!
Dani, you and IrishLass rock!!!!!! Everyone involved in this effort is awesome!!!! From Little shelter, to TOS shelter, to the Bark ave groomers.
What SLOBS< PIGS< DISGUSTING VILE animals the owners of that restaurant are. I am livid, I really wish something would happen to them, for being so neglectful and look at that, they clearly didn't want the poor loving dog to simply just say "Sure, take him". What vile disgusting heartless animals. At least they handed him over, at the very least.
Dani, you rock and so does everyone who cared enough to be involved. May you all go to sleep at night with the biggest smiles on you faces, you rescued a poor loving creature who had no way to help himself, who deserves so much more than these pigs wanted to give him. Shame on them, bravo for you all.

I don't know, I am not from the area. But I am sure someone else can fill you in. I agree, don't give them business and I can't believe so many people would just walk by that poor dog all this time (except for Dani. )

Re: A Rescue Story!
Danielle,
That's awesome! Yes, Arlene is who I spoke with, she's absolutley wonderful and told me she thinks Rudy will be adopted very soon. I told her from your story, I was ready to leave work and run and get him in St. James.
I am so happy that Rudy now has a chance of a happy life with a family that will love him.

Re: A Rescue Story!
I am so happy and am almost in tears (of joy)!!!
I was actually thinking about him today and came online as soon as I got home to check for updates. This is so wonderful and you are awesome for following through, as are the little shelter, smithtown shelter, and Bark Avenue.
Saying a prayer that he is adopted soon! I am so happy that he is going to have a warm, dry, safe place to sleep tonight. Just in time too...weather is supposed to be horrible tomorrow.
