Re: had our level II done today, please say some prayers for us
I am so sorry you are going through this. We had the same thing happen except this baby only has 1 kidney and had cysts on his brain. It was an emotional roller coaster, but the results came in quickly and really put my mind at ease about any chromosomal issues. The amnio was really notbad at all. If you have any questions please feel free to FM me.
I feel like the Dr's really freake me out and without much reason because the cysts are very common and a missing kidney is not a marker for any thing chromosomal.
Try to just take it one day at a time and think positive. Something in my gut just told me our baby was going to be fine and he is. He can and will live a long and happy life with just one kidney as can yours without a gall bladder. I hope you get good news at the cardiologist as well

Sorry you Are going thru this but For my my first level 2 sono they told me heart was too far to the right and possible tear in the diaphragm. I went for a second opinion. LO is ok. I hope you get the same news tomorrow
Thank you so much for your input! Who did you get the 2nd opinion from? A pediatric cardiologist? Or a different sonogram facility/OB's office?

Sending you lots of prayers for your LO
For what its worth, my sister was born with her aorta on the wrong side and she's now sixteen years old and very healthy.
This is so comforting to hear! Did your sister have to have surgery as soon as she was born? I'm guessing they knew about the aorta issue beforehand and were ready for it when your mom went into labor? (or did they do a c-section so everything was planned?). I know I'm getting ahead of myself before I see the pediatric cardiologist, but I have a lot of "what if" scenarios in my head right now! Happy to hear your sister is very healthy!!

At my level II, we were told DS had enlarged areas of the brain with fluid and possible downs/brain problems.. we went to a high risk sonographer for better measurements the following week and nothing was wrong at all. I almost had a heart attack waiting those 7 days. I know how it must feel. Prayers for you guys and try and hang in there
OMG 7 days would be an eternity right now!! I'm assuming you opted out of having an amnio and waited on having the high risk sonogram instead? I'm nervous about the amnio but my doctor strongly suggests it, wondering if I should wait until after having the echocardiogram to have the amnio done though......

I am so so sorry. Friends of mine were told at their Level 2 that their daughter would not live because of a heart defect. Shes almost 3 months old.
I believe they went to Columbia also, and they flew out to California to see a specialist. She was actually born in California and had surgery when she was a few days old. She will have another surgery this month. ETA: you can read everything here Doria Family

Thank you SO much for your reassuring words!! I feel like my doctor is freaking me out too, but I guess b/c she has not seemed like an alarmist up until now I'm taking it more seriously. Glad to hear that the amnio wasn't that bad, I almost feel more nervous about having that done than I do about the fetal cardiogram!

I went to LIJ ante partum and saw dr Nanda who did a complete check and showed me heart was ok in position and the diaphragm. I think head a neonatologist. I think some drs and techs desensitize your issues that's why although I was upset I needed someone else to confirm it.
Good luck tomorrow. .

I am so sorry to here this....I had a friend whos son had the same problem with the heart and also went to Columbia. They ended up doing surgery a few days after birth and now is a perfectly healthy 11 year old. I know its hard news no matter what I could never imagine. I just hope that a amazing story may sit in the back of your head and help a tiny bit.

Thank you for sharing this.....do you know if your friend delivered at Columbia as well? Or did she deliver elsewhere and the baby was transferred to Columbia for surgery? Thank you for the uplifting story! This definitely puts the question out of mind that Columbia is the right place to go (we had a choice of LIJ or Columbia for the echocardiogram today, but my doc was pushing Columbia).

My sister was born with hole in her heart along with her aorta on the wrong side. The drs. knew about it. My mom had a c-section. She didn't have open heart surgery until she was 3 months old- she had 3 surgerys and spent about 1 month in ICU. She's also had a pacemaker put in at 3 months which she has still. I'm praying that your doctor is wrong, but if you do need any pediatric cardiologists, my mom went to some of the best (pretty much all located in NYC). I'm praying this is not the case for you but just remember they have some amazing doctors out there. But before you think about that- PLEASE let this doctor be 100% wrong
