1st Poll-Toilet Seats

I am having a debate on another board about changing toilet seat covers when you move into a new home/apt. Can you please answer yes or no. Thanks!

Re: 1st Poll-Toilet Seats

I voted no but we moved into a house that was bought/gutted by a builder. If I were to move into a house that we bought from someone who lived there I think I would have.

Re: 1st Poll-Toilet Seats

When we moved into our first apt, which was in a complex - they had a new toilet seat for us. It was still wrapped and everything.

Me too, along with a thorough cleaning of the entire place and lining the cabinets.

I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I never heard of doing that. Unless the toilet seat is obviously disgusting, I have not changed it when I move into a new place.

Re: 1st Poll-Toilet Seats

The people we bought our house from bought us a new toilet seat and new shower curtain when we moved in. They only bought one toilet seat though (the one for the main bathroom) the other one we didn't replace because we knew that we were going to gut that bathroom which we are in the process of finishing.

Re: 1st Poll-Toilet Seats

Yes, we changed toilet seats but that is b/c DH didn't like the wood color, and wanted to get white.

Besides he's a clean freak, so he bleached and scrubbed down everything.

Re: 1st Poll-Toilet Seats

i did not change the toilet seat even though i know for some people it is a MUST. whether apartment or new house or whatever. i say,

#1: For those of you who say you don't know who has sat on it, what about when you use the bathroom at a friend or family's house. You don't know whose been on their toilet seat. What's the difference?

#2: They say it is unlikely you will catch something from a toilet seat

And I didn't change the toilet seats in the house i bought b/c they were not the normal toilet seats for $10. They were expensive. Not about the money but just the #1 thing I mentioned above.

Change the toilet seat if it is obviously disgusting.

Same here...and I'm someone who will NOT, under ANY circumstances, sit on a public toilet seat...seat cover or not!

Everything gets disinfected, but I don't see a reason to change the seat unless it's clearly gross.

that was our first order of business this weekend.... It was $30 well spent for the 2 bathrooms to at least know that something was clean

Same with us! We bought a home that everything was brand new. I know the workers used the toilets but not enough for my to actually change them! I disinfected them good!

If I bought another house, I would have changed them immediately!!!
