I am little confused on how to use EWCM as a predictor for ovulation...

I had thought that the presence of EWCM meant you would be ovulating 'soon.'

But then I read something that implied if you BD at the presence of EWCM you likely missed your fertile window...

I realize everyone is different, but what is the general rule here?

Don't use EWCM as a predictor, use as a back up. I get EWCM all throughout my cycle, and BDing changes the consistency of your CM anyway, so it's not accurate.

I don't think it's true that if you BD at the time of EWCM you likely missed your fertile window. I have never heard that. Typically you should be BD'ing at that time. The general rule is that the EWCM is your fertile cervical fluid. I tend to have it for quite a few days (like 6-7) but as soon as it's gone, I know that O has taken place.

the semen actually mixes with your CM and changes the consistency... I've read this a lot, and I experience it.

See and I have it a few days before AND after I O, so I know I can't count on EWCM as an indicator, AND my cervix position changes from month to month - usually it doesn't drop after O, this month it did.

I dry up like nobody's business usually the same day or day after O (later confirmed from temping). I am really interested in cervical position lately, I just started really keeping track of it post-ectopic. I am currently trying to figure out what it is/isn't supposed to be like during the 2ww.

I check CM and position, but I use CBEFM as my primary guide... I was donated a CBEFM from a LIFer, that's they only reason I was able to get one, they're so expensive!

I could never rely on EWCM b/c I either never had it or I had it at different times throughout my cycle. Def use something else to predict O.

The CBEFM scares me. It never had a chance to consider using it while TTC #1, and this is only our 2nd month TTC since the ectopic. I might consider CBEFM if we don't get pg in the next couple of months though. At which point i'd be asking you a million questions probably.

OP sorry for taking over your thread!!

@Jess LOL

I feel like I notice a lot of secondary signs and have a good idea of when I O. But it seams like you can't know for sure unless you chart your temp or use OPKs. For now and thru June my method is to do a lot (a lot, a lot) of extra BDing and see what happens! - hence the Bunnyluck :)

Honestly, just have fun at it... don't make it a job... I had a mc and then a chemical and I put way WAY too much pressure on myself and DH and it did NOTHING.... I'm still using the CBEFM but honestly, I'm just trying to go with the flow and have fun. I know a lot of girls recommend not wasting time and go to the RE, but for me, I'm not ready to make that leap, honestly if I look at it on paper I've barely tried for 6 cycles, it's really only 3 consecutive cycles and 2 consecutive cycles before I took a break (went off pill, got pg, had mc, waited 1 cycle, ttc for 2 cycles, chemical that 2nd cycle, then off 2 cycles, and then ttc this is the 3rd cycle). I HATED who I had become from all the stress and pressure I put on us, and this cycle was GREAT, we bd'ed for fun... a lot... and enjoyed it! AND, I'm focusing on losing the weight I gained after the mc, and am off to a great start. It sounds like your plan of just Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon a lot is perfect! And I love your name, which you already know Chat Icon

Newbie - confused re:ewcm

I have EWCM right before I O, and when I O. Then I do not get it again. I always thought that the change in CM after you BD is because of the semen, like it's leftover or something.

By the way, if I had this conversation in front of everyone I would be turning bright red.

The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" explains it really well and you can get it used off Amazon for $3 or $4 usually.

You'll have the wettest cervical fluid during your most fertile period. For some women that's "egg white" and for others it's just "wet." You'll notice your own patterns pretty quickly. Either way, the rule of thumb is that you are most fertile on your last wettest (or egg white-est) day. Some women (like me) dry up really dramatically really quickly after O'ing. For some it happens more gradually but it's really noticeable when the wettest fluid goes away.

When you bd it doesn't change your CM; it's just that the semen can stay up there for up to 2 days so it can be confusing when you're checking. You have to learn the difference between EWCM and semen and that takes practice!

Re: Newbie - confused re:ewcm

Mine usually means I will be ovulating 3-4 later. Also depends on the consistency of it. Sounds gross but you actually have to touch it and see if it is stretchy..they say if it's stretches without breaking..you are going to ovulate.
My experience with that is that it alerts me that is is coming. After ovulation, I get nothing
