Anyone have a shortened cervix?
I went to see the high risk Dr. this morning and he told me that my cervix is "doing something" About 4 weeks ago it was 38mm and today it is 28mm. He entertained the idea of putting me on bed rest but decided not to. Im a bit nervous, he siad that this may put me at high risk for preterm labor. Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Anyone have a shortened cervix?
Quite a few of us actually. I needed an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks- I'm 27+ weeks now... They usually like to see your cervix above 3 and prefer 3.5... B/w 3-3.5 is the lower end of normal at my Perinatologist. How's many weeks are you! Who was your high risk dr? Are you having contractions or anything? I'm on indomethacin (weekends only) and procardia to help prevent contractions, etc... Hope this helps. I know there are others who didn't need a cerclage who are on bed rest- but I'm sure they'll find their way to this post

Re: Anyone have a shortened cervix?
I just did a search and yea i guess this is not very uncommon. Im 29 weeks. I see the high risk dr in 2 weeks, and hopefully it doesnt get any shorter because I have a flight booked to go to my cousins bridal shower Memorial Day weekend, and I really dont want to miss it since I am probably missing her wedding. Thanks for the info

Mine was actually longer than yours when I was put on very strict bed rest and medication. It's not just the length that matters, but the fact that it dropped a bunch which means it could be on that trend.
Personally if it were ME, I'd rather be safe than sorry and I would not be getting on that plane. A preterm birth can lead to many lasting health effects for the baby and the longer you keep them in the better. There will be other times to visit people .. take flights.. etc.. I'd take this time to prioritize your health and the health of the baby. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk.

Oh no I have a feeling the Dr will tell me that I cant fly, and you're right, if thats the case my health and the baby come first...
