Why cant you wear contacts during labor/delivery?
Forgive me if this is a stupid and obvious question but I was reading in my pregnancy book last night that you cant wear contacts during L&D..why is that?

Maybe if you need an emergency c-section. (just in case) With my c-section I wasn't allowed to wear contacts.

crashing. It's because regular contacts weren't meant to be in your eyes for more than 8ish hours. After that, there isn't enough oxygen going to your eyes. If you need a c-section under general anesthesia, you definitely can't wear contacts because you'll essentially be "sleeping" while they're in.
Wear your glasses.

I wore mine through L&D and just took them out after. I had a pretty quick L&D though and was in the PP room by around 3 am so it wasn't all that long.

Re: Why cant you wear contacts during labor/delivery?
I wore my glasses, but ony because I read the same thing. I think it would of been fine to wear my contacts. I guess if they had to do an emergency C-section. But you could always just pop them out real fast and put on your glasses.

No one told me you couldn't.
I had my glasses on just because I wanted to, but I could have worn my contacts.

I just went to the eye dr the other day and my eyes have not been getting enough oxygen from excessive contact wear. She said I have really bad cornea damage as a result. Definitely do whatever you can to wear them less/not fall asleep in them! I wish I had been warned before. I lived in my contacts and now I am only supposed to wear them socially and for a few hours at a time.

Eek! Thanks for the warning. One more thing for me to obsess over on google. I don't sleep through the night with them, but I am definitely guilty of napping with them in. Also wear them for more than 8 hours. Been so long since I've gone to the eye dr. Way too long.

I had to go under general for my c-section. They only use that for serious emergencies that have to be handled quickly. There wouldn't have been any time for me to take my contacts out.
Very few women (maybe 5%) have to do this, but most hospital procedures are designed to protect you just in case the shiznit suddenly hits the fan. JMO, but I wouldn't risk it. (I'm a BTDT that's also an eye doctor's daughter, so I do have a small idea what I'm talking about). Bring them with you and put them in before you take pictures.

Re: Why cant you wear contacts during labor/delivery?
No problem! I hadn't gone to the eye dr in forever either but I had run out of contacts and figured I might as well. I had no symptoms either. My eyes didn't bother me at all and they felt completely normal so I was definitely taken aback when the Dr. told me.
