Does anyone else get comments from there neighbors about work that is being done?

So I live on a cul-d-sac and we have lived here 4 years. The first 4 years we didn't do a thing to the house. The last 2 years we have done a lot and 2 woman on the block have made comments like "wow, you guys did so much work and your are so young, DH must make a lot of money!" Who says that? I just say we saved or just ignore it. One woman asked how much certain stuff was and I just say DH dealt with it and I am not sure.
Right now we we are having our drive redone because we just kept loosing chunks of asphalt. I mean the last time it was done was at least 15 years ago.

Anyone else deal with this?

In my old neighborhood - there was one house that was in disarray and new people bought it and fixed it up. Back then, I stopped when I saw them outside to tell them it looked great and how we were happy to have them fixing it up. I would never mention money - thats so inappropriate.

We just moved in our new home and my DH was trimming the bushes. It was our neighbors plants which were hanging over our side and our neighbor came out and was like cut here cut there, can you cut this whole thing...my DH said no that's ok I will wait until I have a hedge cutter to cut my bushes ..some nerve they have...

If they said oh I am thinking of getting that done too, do you mind me asking you how much so I can get some quotes too. Or if you are happy with Xs work? I would be more than happy to share that info with my neighbors and perfectly fine with them asking me for the info. However, if they were obviously fishing for how much you/DH make then I would not be ok with it.

We've gotten lots of positive comments from the neighbors as well. All positive, and none about the money. Then again, most of the neighbors have done/are doing similar levels of reno on their places as well.

My neighbor finds anything to yell at me about when we are getting work done. Funny thing is he never has approached my husband or the people who are doing the service about the complaint. He waits until the company leaves and he sees me getting into my car with the kids and yells at me.

we just moved to a cul de sac and did a lot of work to the house. our neighbors have all stopped to comment when they catch us outside. no one has mentioned money though. i think they are all dying to see what the inside looks like!

everyone mentions the work we put into it. no one ever mentioned that we make major cash or anything (because we don't.)

Yes! We had not even moved in yet and was having some work done- next door neighbor who never even bothered to stop by and introduce herself asked the contractor what he was doing and if she could go in the house and look! Of course he said no, but I thought that was really rude.

Our neighbors have stopped to comment about the progress we made in the yard - namely the fact that you can now see the house from the road. It took us two years to get there too! (Since we did all but taking down the giant tree ourselves). All positive though.

But then again it doesn't look like we are spending lots of money since we are clearly doing the work ourselves and not quickly! Hahaha.

we got comments from neighbors walking by just saying nice things about how we fixed up the outside of our house really nice... but no mention on money.. that is so rude!

They all comment how the front came out really nice and that it opens up the house , but every time they see a work van it is.."so what are you guys doing now?" and they aren't asking in sincere way, but more of a nosey way.

After I read the responses I looked outside and realized all the ones who have made comments to me are the ones haven't fixed their home up since they moved in 30 years ago, so everything is original.

My neighbor across the street said she has never had any landscaping (she doesn't, except grass) because they couldn't be bothered with the maintenance and that we must be tired of looking at her house like that (we are ) so if we want we can plant some things by her and then laughed. I have to be honest, I thought about doing it

we redid our entire house and no one ever said a word, no one really cared either.

I have one neighbor that is super nosey and has come by every single time we were having a project done. It's quite frustrating. I caught her harassing my workers on more than 1 occassion!!! I had to tell her off. I wish you lots of luck dealing with your neighbors. Offer up some sarcastic witty remarks next time and maybe they'll take the hint and mind their own business

My neighbor asked me what I paid for my deck, I told her I wasn't exactly sure because we had other stuff done, felt a bit awkward

When we purchased our home, it hadn't been lived in for 6 yrs and the old owner lives out in Westhampton Beach. We purchased the house in July '09 but didn't/couldn't move in until Dec. '09 due to all the work we were doing. However, neighbors came to visit and introduce themselves when they saw us outside working.

Still to this day, my husband gets comments from the neighbors about his handy work and how he makes them all feel like lazy bums because he is always outside doing something to the house/for the house.

We have a pain in the bottom neighbor he knows everything and just has to be in the middle of everything we do. My honey and I try to do thing when we know he won't be around.

People will comment on how great things look, but nothing related to money. Most people assume my husband is a contractor/builder since he does a lot of the big projects himself and most of our renos have been "subtle," so many would have no idea of the cost.

When we first bought our house 8 years ago the first comment I got from a neighbor was "you are younger than I thought you would be. Guess they are paying young folks well these days"

I have gotten stopped a few times with people thanking me for cleaning up 'that house' on the block It really has come a long way. I love it, a compliment is always nice!
