The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?! UPDATED: what about Plainview
Beginning to do some house hunting there..
please be brutally honest
ETA: I am also starting to look at Plainview ?!?! Anyone have pro and cons for there!
I appreciate all your input! I know nothing about Nassau towns and esp schools and communities except what I read on MLSLI, wikipedia, and the article in newsday on the results of the state tests!
These two towns "look good on paper" but I am so glad I am able to get real life mom's input! =)))

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?!
I looked there for a while. There is alot of congestion around the train. Besides that, it's a good area with great schools. But even still, it just wasn't for me for some reason.

i think taxes are OUT of control there. My grandparents house was not large and the taxes were 16,000.

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?!
As far as quality of life and the schools go? Not a bad thing there!
What a great district - award winning.
But it's mad expensive and the taxes are a lot - then again, a lot of people will say you get what you pay for. If the school and area is important to you then it is worth every penny.

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?!
Bad: High taxes, crowded train station although I think we still used to get parking for the 7:22 or whatever it was.
Good: Pretty area, great schools, convenient to the LIE and Northern State. Lots of good restaurants. Very family oriented.

Both are nice towns. Very little cons except for high taxes.

DH's family is in Plainview, and if we had the money to purchase a home, we would want to look there. Its a good SD, we love just walking around the area. DH liked growing up there

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?! UPDATED: what about Plainview
We wanted Plainview but was priced out.
We are in Bethpage. And although it's a good school district for sure it doesn't get the same praise as Plainview and Syosset.
Nice town though and convenient to Plainview. I mostly shop in Plainview.

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?! UPDATED: what about Plainview
We are selling our house in Syosset it is closer to Plainview and it is at a really great price for the neighborhood. BLock has lots of families. YOu are right by NOrthern state and LIE.
I loved living there but we wanted a bigger house and we could not get what we wanted in Syosset... Also we were closer to Hicksville station. Not as congested and more trains...
We only looked in Syosset or Plainview...
If interested let me know...

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?! UPDATED: what about Plainview
I grew up in North Syosset. We are actually discussing buying my parents home there right now. The schools are really great but the taxes are astronomical! Like PP's mentioned, the traffic by the train specifically during rush hour is pretty brutal.

Re: The good the bad the ugly: Syosset?!?! UPDATED: what about Plainview
We looked in Syosset and Plainview and ended up in Plainview..both, to us, have good schools and where we are, we have a lot of nice walking and the area is SO convenient...also, I like that you can be on the North or South Shores in no time and, in our case, you can use the Bethpage or Hicksville train stations, giving you options for parking, trains, etc. Any specifics, ask..we are happy here..quiet, have a lawn, LOL...
