Re: Just For Fun...What is your ethnicity and...
MY DH is Dominican and does not like Mexican or Tex-Mex. A friend of ours once said, "but you're Dominican? How can you not like Mexican food, isn't it the same?"

Re: Just For Fun...What is your ethnicity and...
My family is from Bangladesh. DH's family is from India. However, I was born and raised in America. I cook a mix of both country's foods, but lately I've been cooking more Indian food than Bengali food simply to learn more about DH's culture. What we like to eat:
Curry- Chicken curry, shrimp curry, beef curry, insert any protein and it can be curried! My mom makes amazing curried salmon fillets
Khichuri (bengali dish- it's a rice dish mixed with lentils- no meat)
Goat Biryani (rice dish with meat mixed in)
Dahl (lentils)
Tandoori Chicken
Aloo Bhorta (Bengali version of mashed potato)
Kanji (Indian porridge of rice and ground chicken)
There's lots of other foods, but these are a few of my favs!

LOVE everything on this list (except mondongo-just never got used to the taste).
FYI Colombian empanadas are totally different from jamaican beef patties (taste wise) in case anyone was wondering.
And for breakfast theres nothing like huevos pericos con arepas y chocolate caliente.....unless you're dominican like DH and then it would be mangu con salchichon y queso frito
Like I said...most people find it disgusting
And huevos pericos and chocolate caliente...now you're talking my language. All I would need to finish that up are some almojabanas !

Re: Just For Fun...What is your ethnicity and...
My mother is French-born and my father is German and Scottish by way of Kentucky.
We don't really eat any ethnic meals...but if I had to say, I cook a lot of Southern cuisine because of my Dad. And I make a TON of authentic French pastries and desserts.

I am a mutt. My background is Italian, English, Irish and Polish. My DH is 100% Italian. I cook mainly Italian dishes, but I also like to eat healthy with less pasta, starches etc... I just really cook anything that sounds good to me!

OMG ME TOO! I hate when I tell people I don't eat spicey food and they say "how could you not eat spicey food, you're spanish" Drives me crazy!
Totally annoying when people make comments like that to me. Someone will say "Oh you don't like Meson Ole? Why NOT!?" Or asking me if I like burritos or refried beans. Sorry but not all "spanish food" is like that.
I'm half Puerto Rican and half Peruvian.
Dishes that were always staples that I'll make:
rice & beans pernil tostones maduro mofungo chicken guisado carne milanesa sancocho ceviche chicharones
there's a peruvian dish my mom makes and i don't know the name, but it's this amazing cream sauce you put over cold potatoes and hard boiled eggs. mmmmmm
and tons of other stuff

Armenian:
- Pilaf Rice - Kebabs - Meat and veg. Stews - Hummus - Fatoush (Salad with pita chips) -Tabouli Salad (Parsley Salad w/ onion, bulgar and tomatoes) - Dolma (Stuffed grape leaves w/rice and or meat)
Armenians are everywhere these food reflect middle eastern Armenians.
ditto to this!! I'm 100% Armenian. Most everything else I want to add to this list would make no sense to anyone other than the few of us on here although you have to add:
plain yogurt
we put it on everything....especially the homemade kind my dad makes

I just saw this-I'm a mutt too. I'm half Italian, half...well everything else ! No really, the other half is Ukranian, German, Russian. My father was also born in Argentina and lived there for 13 years sooo theres mor of a mix! lol
I like to cook all the Italian foods-pasta w/my own sauce, eggplant/chicken parm, lasagna, chicken/veal marsala, etc.
I guess from my father side-empanadas?
I do NOT like russian/ukranian foods so therefore, I do not cook em

I'm Irish, we drink and don't cook.
Just kidding Actually when we got married, we told the caterers my family was a big Irish family and DH's family was a big Greek family. so she said I better have lots of good food for the Greeks and lots of booze for the Irish. It's funny b/c in our case it's so true.

Re: Just For Fun...What is your ethnicity and...
I am American of German decent. Nothing exciting really. DH is born & raised in Ghana West Africa. We eat lots of his foods. Popular foods include: Fried plantains Jollof rice- a spanish-like rice with pieces of goat & chicken. Goat stew Banku- cannot compare to anything, maybe polenta Kenkey- similar taste to Banku (I hate it) Shitor- a spicy paste made with dried shrimp this is eaten with everything avocado & white rice Gari- a grainy powder made of dried, ground cassava. Eaten with milk, sugar & peanuts as breakfast. Nedo- a powdered milk that is added to everything- oatmeal etc. Nutmeg bread Peanut stew. Okra stew.
It's super ethnic stuff. I have become 100% African though I embrace it. We eat everything with our right hand (as in no silverware) left hand stays clean for doing things.

what are some typical dishes? I'm always looking to try new foods.
I was born in NY but my parents are from Colombia and Puerto Rico
Typical dishes are:
Rice and beans
Tostones (double fried plantains)
Pernil (pork shoulder-seasoned and baked for ~6 hours-very yummy)
Sancocho (Hearty stew made different ways but usually with beef, chicken, plantains, yucca, yautia, potatoes and corn) Get ready for bed after eating this
These are just a few but a good start
My family is Italian, but can I come live @ your Mom's house instead ???

Wow, I rarely ever "meet" someone who is Colombian and Puertorican like me!!
My mom also makes mondongo but the pernil, tostones and rice and beans are definitely one of my favorite meals. My mom also makes an amazing flan from scratch. I also love it when she makes bunuelos and natilla.

People often are confused about my nationality. My features are more puerto rican but I have a colombian accent when I speak spanish unless I'm P I S S E D off then the puerto rican accent comes out! I often get confused for Dominican though. Mmmm theres nothing like homeade bunuelos! I never learned how to make them so I usually go to this colombian bakery in East Meadow (Precosa) and buy stuff there.
