In the UK, its just as common at a dinner party to spark up a spliff as it is to pass around a glass of wine. Cannabis does not have the stigma that it has in the UK. People smoke with their parents, with their bosses, its not frowned upon here at all. We gave a very different attitude towards it.

Same here. At my Christmas party, which was at a bar in the centre of the city on the harbour, someone lit one up. It was passed around like it was nothing. I was just like  you HAVE to hide that. I then realised that it is ok and acceptable. After that night I had a little pot and chocolate fountain party with my co-workers at my house.  I am having another one in June.

We do drug testing for employees if they are put on certain assignments (mainly government contracts). I have never had any one fail a drug test. It's unlikely that with all of the people I have tested not one of them smoke - which leads me to believe they must be hitting their health food stores.

I have posted about this before BUT I am the only person in all of my "circles of friends" that doesn't smoke. And the only reason I don't is that I tend to have panic attacks any time I feel out of control.
I don't see it as a big deal - and most of these people have great jobs and lead respectable lives.

I know quite a few people who smoke and you would never expect. I personally haven't smoked in years, although sometimes I do think about it and kind of miss it. I just think that at this point it might be better in my memory than it would in real life.

If it was legal and we did drug tests ,still have to test for coke and other drugs, I would still pass on a pot head.

Don't understand why people think it's any different than getting trashed. With the minor exception that I have seen more people act like idiots after a night of drinking.
That's my opinion and I am sticking to it
My dh is one of those people who think it is morally wrong and for this reason, I don't touch the sweet cheebas anymore.

I had to write something about this..
I too was surprised when i found out several years ago that most people i know smoke - from all walks of life and all ages, all around the world.
I think its in how you treat it that determines if you are a pot head who lets it rule your life, or if you are someone who occasionally does it (to relax, recreation etc.).
I know people who do it for creative purposes, even people who do it before they clean to make themselves more focused! Next time you're at the movies, check out the parking lot - i guarantee you'll see a car or two with some smoke coming out of it.
It also affects everyone differently, so assuming that just because you smoke sometimes, makes you a 'stoner' or a 'pothead' is a bit of a generalization.
If you smoke every day.. then yes, you have a problem, just as if you drank every day or did any other mind altering thing every day.
Every once in a while, in a controlled environment like your own home - i see nothing wrong with it.
IMO though people who drive while high should face the same punishment as people who drive while drunk.
I have smoked plenty of times, but i know my boundaries and my limits and because i'm an adult and can make those choices.
Kids should never never touch the stuff - it rots your brain and makes you forget things

I don't do it, and I actually don't know that many people who do (this board aside ). But I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people I know do smoke occasionally and just don't advertise it.

Honestly, until recently, I didn't realized that so many people outside of college did
I've really been sheltered - I've never smoked, but a bunch of people I work with all smoke. It was an eye opener for me. I come from a long line of paranoid rule/law followers so I honestly had no idea.
