Yes, we live on DH's income but I had to start babysitting for two kids this year to make some extra $$. I don't want to go back to work (teaching) yet.

We've essentially been living on one income since we got married. If DH lost his current job we'd be okay, it would be tight, but we'd be okay. If I lost my job, we'd be screwed.

I'm a SAHM and we do live on one income. You just learn to adjust your lifestyle to live within your means. It takes some time ... but ... anyone can do it.

I really don't believe that anyone can do it. You don't know how much people make, and you probably bought your home 5 years or more ago when they were half what they are now. Even with renting...There's only so much you can do with, say, a $30,000 a year salary.

how i wish that were true.
we would lose our house if one of us didn't have a job. each of us makes a great salary, but each of our salaries would just cover the mortgage and taxes for the month. we NEED the other salary to pay the other bills and save. there's nothing we could do, short of selling our house and renting an apartment, that could let us live on one income. and going to an apartment after owning a house will never be an option.
if we had bought a house 10 years ago, yes we could do it with one salary.

We live off of FH's salary, its more than enough, I work at his company, but I really just help out. I do get a check...but its coming out of his business account.

We would struggle if DH lost his job...but we have savings, etc that could help us get by.
However we would live comfortably on DHs salary alone - in actuality, we have been living off just his salary (while banking my entire salary and portions of his) for a few years now. That was our plan when buying a home last year - being able to do it on his salary alone so when the time came for us to start a family, we would have the option for me to be a SAHM.
