Digital Thermostats

Anyone install one themself? We have the traditional manual one where you turn it...but I'd like to set it so that I don't wake up to a 60 degree house *brrr*

If you installed it, where'd you buy it and how difficult a task was it?

Re: Digital Thermostats

My DH is going to do ours next weekend. We have a friend in the "heating" business, so he got it for us. You can get good ones at Home Depot though

Re: Digital Thermostats

First you ned to know if the line for the thermostat is low voltage or high. Once you know that its and simple as turning off the breaker and attaching the wires. FYI.. most low volatge lines will have colorer wires and are thin. Higher voltage lines are usually 2 thicker wires

We bought ours from Home Depot, DH insisted on getting the most expensive one and it is super annoying! We're still trying to figure out how to schedule it right, you can pre-schedule it for the entire week. So I wish we had gotten a simpler digital one.

Our contractor hooked it up for us.

Re: Digital Thermostats

DH did it himself, didn't take long at all. you just have to match up wires i think.

Re: Digital Thermostats

We got one from Home Depot and it was simple.

Pull out old manual thermostat, wrap existing wires around screws where indicated, mount back on wall.

The instructions were very clear.

Re: Digital Thermostats

We replaced an old one with a digital. I dont remember the brand or where we got it (its since been replaced when we renovate) but I'll say this - my DH replaced it so it can't be that hard. Chat Icon He'd be the first to admit he's not exactly the handyman type. (although he tries much to my dismay)

DH tried to install one last weekend....he got it connected and then it started burning, so he took it off, bought a manual $15 one at a hardware store and that's what we're using now. Chat Icon

You more then likely have a high voltage line and bought a low voltage thermostat
