Please help...a beautiful life lost today
Go fund Me Page
This morning after putting her son on the bus Skye was hit by a car on the sidewalk while walking back home with the family dog in East Islip.
She and the dog sadly did not make it.
Please donate whatever you can to help this family at this tragic time. She was a single mom to little 5 year old Antonio.

I cannot stop thinking about this, especially since we live in the area where this happened. My prayers are with her little boy and her family.

I keep crying every time I read this story. Thank god the boy did not see it happen. My heart breaks for that little boy! Does anyone know why the driver lost control?

This is so horrible. Thank god her son was safely on the bus before this happened. So sad. That poor baby, 5 years old and his mother is gone. I just can't.

Ugh I can't stop thinking about this. So disturbing and tragic.
And it really makes you think. I was thinking back to the thread yesterday about fear of flying.... and this goes to show you, you can die at any time, anywhere. Even doing something as routine and supposedly safe as walking home on the sidewalk after putting your child on the bus. Like any other normal morning.
And yet, we fear getting on a plane. It's really food for thought....

Couldn't agree more. This story really struck a chord with me and I can't stop thinking about it. This poor woman just said goodbye to her son. Kind of put things into perspective for me, all the stupid stuff I stress and complain about, you just forget that life is really just too short and you never know when your time is up.

Re: Please help...a beautiful life lost today
This makes me so sick. The whole road and the spot the driver loses control happens to be the spot where this young woman was walking? It's heartbreaking. I can't even stand it. Prayers for her boy and the family.

Re: Please help...a beautiful life lost today
News12 just posted a link on FB saying the police have been issuing speeding tickets on that road all day.

Re: Please help...a beautiful life lost today
Doesn't shock me at all. More and more every day all I see is people who drive like total and complete aggressive, selfish a-holes- speeding, weaving in and out of lanes to get ONE car length ahead in traffic, tail gating.
I am not saying that is the case in this accident as we have no idea yet what caused this driver to lose control, but man, Long Island is really becoming a scary place to drive!

I agree. It's scary out there. I notice it more and more lately... drivers whizzing past me left and right when I'm doing the speed limit. The amount of people swerving all over the place because they are texting is insane too.
I would think speed had to have been a factor here right? Why else would the police be out in full force on this street specifically? Such a terrible tragedy.

That specific area of that road is prone to speeding. We know people that live there and they have been trying to get a stop sign installed in that area after a driver lost control and almost drove through their house last year. They did not get anywhere with that.
I also think this brings up another issue Why are bus stops on such busy roads? I realize this incident really has nothing to do with the bus stop itself but I do not understand why bus stops are on roadways like this. Morning pick up is smack in the middle of rush hour. Its very dangerous to have bus stops on main roads that lead to the highways. It's poor planning and unsafe for the children.

exactly! My daughters bus stop is on Lakeland Ave which has a speed limit of 50 mph and 4 lanes of traffic and a turning lane. So unsafe. NO one stops for the bus. The cops sit there in the morning and pulls over about 5 cars (that they catch) each time. Last week someone stopped for the bus and was smashed into by the car behind them-the kids were just loading the bus and car parts went flying everywhere. Could have easily came and plowed down the 20 plus kids at the bus stop and their families. I called transportation which the supervisor wouldnt get on the phone and refuses to address this saftey issue. I was told to fax a letter which I did and have a petition from the bus stop families to get it moved.
That was last week and this week this happened.

IF that is where the home is where else would they have a bus stop? Either way, to go to one elsewhere they would still have to leave their home and walk down the busy street to another stop location.
