Please help...a beautiful life lost today
All I keep thinking about was that thread here recently where people said they drive fast and if you go the speed limit, to get off the road or move over.
Every single time I drive, I mean we're talking 98% of the time - I have some asshole tailgating me or, if they're able to, move over and speed past me. I've gotten the dirty looks at the red lights all because I did the speed limit. And absolutely forget it if you go the speed limit on the parkway or the expressway.
Last night I saw a guy completely blow through a red light on purpose. I don't mean like it had just heard yellow either… He blew right past it after it was red for a few seconds. Same asshole Ended up being at the next red light with the rest of us.
Just the other day, my son was getting on the bus and the bus driver had out the stop sign. Some asshole in a company truck blew past the bus while my son was grtting on. The first thing I did was call up the company and told them their driver had no respect for anyone or the law and needs to not drive anymore.
From what I understand… The driver suffered a medical issue. I'm so sorry for this poor little boy… My heart aches for him. But I hope that this gives attention to all the jerky drivers that are out there. I honestly feel if you get a certain amount of speeding tickets, your license should be taken away permanently.

Yep I couldn't agree more. It's almost like you're a loser if you drive safely and considerately. What is everyone in such a rush for? Hiw about leave your house on time? But it's beyond that even. I feel like speeding is just so ingrained in some people, it's just a habit. There definitely needs to be stricter penalties for speeding and reckless driving.

Yup. I agree 100%.
I live in the city now so I don't keep my car here. I leave it on LI. So when I go out there, maybe 1 weekend a month I do some driving. And I guess I forgot how crazy drivers are since I don't do it that often anymore. But I can't get over it. People are lunatics! As for blowing passed a school bus, I really wish they had cameras on them so those f'ing assholes can get ticketed for it! And by a lot, not just $100. Make it $500-$1000! I hear about this so much. That's where the cameras need to be!

Doesn't shock me at all. More and more every day all I see is people who drive like total and complete aggressive, selfish a-holes- speeding, weaving in and out of lanes to get ONE car length ahead in traffic, tail gating.
I am not saying that is the case in this accident as we have no idea yet what caused this driver to lose control, but man, Long Island is really becoming a scary place to drive!
I agree. It's scary out there. I notice it more and more lately... drivers whizzing past me left and right when I'm doing the speed limit. The amount of people swerving all over the place because they are texting is insane too.
I would think speed had to have been a factor here right? Why else would the police be out in full force on this street specifically? Such a terrible tragedy.
That specific area of that road is prone to speeding. We know people that live there and they have been trying to get a stop sign installed in that area after a driver lost control and almost drove through their house last year. They did not get anywhere with that.
I also think this brings up another issue Why are bus stops on such busy roads? I realize this incident really has nothing to do with the bus stop itself but I do not understand why bus stops are on roadways like this. Morning pick up is smack in the middle of rush hour. Its very dangerous to have bus stops on main roads that lead to the highways. It's poor planning and unsafe for the children.
IF that is where the home is where else would they have a bus stop? Either way, to go to one elsewhere they would still have to leave their home and walk down the busy street to another stop location.
It would be safer if they moved the stop off the main road and used the side streets. If you have to walk a few houses to a stop to be off the main road, so be it. It's a moot point in this sad instance but like a PP wrote about Lakeland, that's a tragedy in the making.

Yep and the assholess would be like- I got a ticket for speeding past a stopped school bus. Can I fight it? Worth it to go to court and lie on the stand and say I didn't do it? a-holes
