I use a college student or a local mother and both are happy with $10/hour.

A 50% raise is ridiculous for anyone much less a 14 yr old!
She's lucky you are willing to be so generous
I did think $10 was low, which is why I posted here in the first place. She plays with the boys and helps them clean their rooms. The boys would prefer her to an older sitter so we are ok with the arrangement.
I am sure by the time she is a senior, her rate will be $20.
I'm sorry but this is laughable. That's what nannies make
Yes, that is about how much we pay our old nanny to babysit for us. Our old nanny is in Asia for the month. She will be back next month.
The main difference is that our old nanny would not want to sit for us for 2 hours. We usually use her for 5 hours min at a time. She often overlaps with us though so we are home. She will cook us meals, do our laundry, make our beds.
DH and I had 4 date nights in the past 2 weeks. We tried out My Gym's Parents Night Out because we won a gift certificate, babysit swap with DS's BFF and then our teen sitter.
We had more date nights in February than all of 2015. It was nice to be able to go out with no guilt.
Teen sitter is still the most convenient and probably cheapest. Kids love our neighbor.

$10/hr ok for 14 yr old sitter? UPDATE
I have one DD and pay 10 dollars an hour for one kid. I would think that's low for 2 or 3 kids.

I don't know if it makes a difference but teen neighbor is probably ivy league bound. She is very smart and responsible.
I am sure we could get other teen sitters in our neighborhood for less but our kids have known this teen neighbor for most of their lives (4 yrs since moving to VA).

I originally thought it was a big jump but think it is fair. DH thinks it is the same work whether it is a teen or a 50 yo. Babysitter is watching our 2 children.
DH would not trust random teenager with our kids.

I get why you would pay that amount , especially if you moved out of state and don't have family near. I just think (not just this girl), but some of these sitters take advantage and are very over paid.

I stopped by my friend's sales event yesterday and told my friend about the $5 raise. All the moms in the room thought that a 50% raise was ridiculous. haha
DH and I think that $12-13 is probably a better rate but don't want to negotiate over $2-3. We only use her for 2 hours at a time so we are talking a total of $5. Would rather have a happy sitter who wants to babysit for us.

You're paying her for an extremely important job, and the pay is for small blocks of hours at a time. I think what you're proposing is fine.

Re: $10/hr ok for 14 yr old sitter? UPDATE
I used to get $10 an hour when I babysat as a teen a million years ago. I thought $15 was the going rate now. A few of my friends pay $20 an hour for sitters. Not sure if they are teenagers though. I would definitely be more then happy to pay $15 for a sitter I trusted and whom my kids liked. It isn't worth being petty over $5 for. Peace of mind is worth more then that to me.

For a 14 year old, yes thats fine... Someone older may charge more, I also think it depends on the type of sitting they'll be doing. I was a full-time nanny for 3 years and was paid 15 an hour.
