2 yr old cried for 45 mins with sitter after I left for work...help!

I've posted a couple of times about our bedtime woes in the past week and a half, DD won't let us leave the room all of a sudden asking for one more hug, one more snuggle appearing to be scared of being alone, bursting into hysterics, finally calming down once the door is finally closed (used to go down with no questions asked)

This week she started getting upset when we leave for work. We've had the same nanny come 2x a week (I work p/t) since Sept and was always fine with us leaving. On Monday, when DH left for work she was really upset and didn't want him to go. This morning for me she was hysterical, the no-breathing cry, begging me to stay, the sitter said it lasted for 45 mins and she wouldn't let the sitter come near her to comfort her.

What the H is going on?? I'm pg with #2 and we talk about "baby brother" but there is no way that can be affecting her already? She barely knows what it means! How do I avoid these sad goodbyes and the extended tears?

She used to be such a laid-back kid!

Sounds like separation anxiety. AJ went through it. She has ALWAYS been in daycare (since 4m) but the 2yr stage was the WORST with the tears. The arms reaching out to us. Don't leave and the crying. We had to just hug her kiss her and show NO emotion and walk away with "I will be back, I promise" and when we picked her up we'd reconfirm "See we came back, mama had to work" etc.

Honestly, two was just rough, period for separation anxiety.

My DD went through that for a short while too. Whenever we left her (with family) we would get her to sing a song DH used to sing from a movie called " Mommy comes back". It helped her to realize we would be back and not to get upset.

MY MOMMY COMES BACK
(Words: Martha Cheney and Hap Palmer / Music: Hap Palmer)
©Hap-Pal Music, Inc.

Sometimes my mommy takes me over
To another friends house to play
Sometimes I only stay a little while
Sometimes I stay all day, but

Chorus: My mommy comes back
She always comes back
She always comes back to get me
My mommy comes back
She always comes back
She never would forget me

Sometimes I worry when she leaves me
I hope she won't be gone too long
But when I'm with my friends and havin' fun
I soon forget she's gone, and

Repeat Chorus

Sometimes I visit with my grandma
While my mommy goes somewhere
We bake some cookies and we read a book
And rock in the rocking chair, and

Repeat Chorus
