Wow! It has nothing to do with entitlement! I would just love a simple manicure once in awhile. I'm not saying I'm ENTITLED to it! Just saying I would like one.
I don't think it's entitlement and you're not being entitled. Like I said before, a person who is putting their nose up at a well behaved kid in a salon or restaurant can be deemed as entitled as well.

I feel the same way when I go to Target for some "me" time, and people bring their whining, misbehaved children in. This thread is ridiculous. I don't know anyone that goes to a nail salon to relax. You go to a day spa for that.
Didn't know where to start...so let's start with the above....AGREE Secondly, you went to a nail salon for a mani/pedi and found coming on lif was relaxing??? Lol

If your children are sitting quietly, then I have no problem.
However, if they're screaming, crying, fidgety, etc. and disrupting others, then the right thing to do is wrap things up, reschedule, and go home.
I don't buy the SAHM excuse. Find some local moms and take turns watching each others' kids if they won't sit quietly. Again, I'm not talking about kids who behave. If they do, not an issue.
I just kept thinking of the NY Times article as I was reading this post. If manis were triple the price like they should be, many people's working conditions would improve. But now I can think of another benefit. Maybe it'll mitigate some people's sense of entitlement.
"Behaved" is subjective. I am sure the mother (and father who didn't do anything either) on the plane the other day who was ignoring her child would have said he was behaved too.
True. People have different definitions of behaved. To that end, the salon's definition should prevail. I just stated on my other post that I once witnessed the owner of the salon I go to reschedule someone whose kid was running wild. I was happy to see that, as was everyone else in the place.
Yes and I agree that if your child is screaming, they should not be there. It is not fair to you or the employees or other customers. It is THAT important to you that you cant go another time alone? Besides that, if your dh works that many hours that they cant be around for one hour to do this, this is more concerning to me then bringing the kids. I guess that is why I fnd it a luxury as we dont work that many hours so I can get these things done on a regular basis.

Re: Your opinion
One time, when I was getting a pedi, the woman next to me kept her ~18m old on her lap the entire time... while the child was well behaved she clearly had a poopy diaper that SMELLED the entire time I was getting my pedicure. I was thinking of my 18m old home with his grandparents and how I did this to get away from him and his sister and their poop smells....

Re: Your opinion
This thread wasn't about well behaved children. It was about babies under 3. It also then became about kids who don't behave.
Aside from the fact that I don't think a place with such a chemical smell is safe for a baby to be in for any long period of time, babies that age are almost always incapable of "behaving" for any long period of time--and it's not kind or fair to expect them to.
I do find people who bring babies to adult shows and movies, etc. and then say "I wanted to be here. I don't want to pay a sitter. Deal with it," to be very entitled. They take what should be THEIR problem/sacrifice and inflict it on everyone else--so invariably, the baby cries, the show is interrupted, people strain to hear...and it's not right.

Re: Your opinion
I can tune out any children other than my own so I wouldn't care. I had to bring my son with me once while I was getting my eyebrows and lip waxed and he started crying because he didn't want them to take the hair off my face. Everyone was hysterically laughing at him. I wouldn't bring my kids if I thought they would talk the entire time but I do bring my girls to get mani/pedi's with me. They are super quiet though.
ETA: I just noticed that this went post is over 6 pages! have to go back and find out why.

What are your thoughts on bringing young children (under 3) to a nail salon, and getting both a mani pedi?
There's a woman here now with her son, and he will.not.shut.up. I left my kid at the sitters for some quiet, and now have to listen to someone else's kid
IMO, rude. But then again I don't have tolerance for that sort of thing, not the way I was raised. I go to get a manicure to relax, do not want to hear a screaming child. Now if it's a little girl getting her nails painted who is being good, I have no problem. I do believe there are times and places to bring children. Ex. last night I am out to dinner in a nice restaurant, not super fancy but very nice. At 8pm a couple is seated next to us with their little boy who could not have been more than 2 1/2...seriously, you bring your toddler to a nice restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night? I will admit, the little boy was as good as gold, but all I kept saying to my SO was that he should be in bed at that hour.
Are you serious with this post? Yikes! It bothered you to see a well behaved little boy enjoying a nice meal in a restaurant with his parents? Hmmmm I don't have anything nice to say so I will leave it at that! I take my two kids now 5 and 7 to nice/fancy restaurants all the time and many times we are there past 8. Been doing it since my youngest was 3. My kids know how to behave in these restaurants better Than some adults! Wonderful memories and wonderful times! Isn't that what life is all about?!! I'm sorry that it bothers you to see this family making wonderful Memories together! Wow! Moreover, Why should I be limited to Crappy restaurants just because I have kids! If my kids can behave like adults no reason why we can't enjoy a nice meal as a family. and why do u care what time his bedtime is? My kids go to bed Way past 8 in the summer and on vacations and weekends and they are both extremely bright, well adjusted, musically and athletically gifted, mature and well rounded kids! So I would reserve your judgments in the future because honestly it sounds a little silly! And that is the nicest way I can put it!

Yes, kids are well behaved when they are on some type of technology. Take that away and let's see how well they deal with sitting in a nail salon or other place for an hour or two occupying themselves. They can't as these kids are thrown ipads and iphones and ds's to keep them quiet and behaved.
HUGE pet peeve of mine.

I don't bring my kids with me. They have gotten their nails done, but I don't bring them.when i go.
Honestly, some.women behave worse then children. I hear women on their cell phones having loud conversations. I know.it's not a screaming child, but it definitely is disruptive.

She asked about a nail salon, not a spa. Two VERY different things. I've never been in a "relaxing" nail salon. The nail techs are yapping, the women getting their nails done are yapping, phones are ringing, music is playing. What exactly is even relaxing about that???
I wouldn't bring my kid to a spa either but a nail salon??.................I don't see an issue if a child is well behaved.

Re: Your opinion
I think what is being lost in this society is places that were intended for adults only.
Parents don't want to sacrifice to go places because they have kids like many others have done generations ago.

I hate.kids in any kind of salon. I get sometimes it's unavoidable, but for the most part I don't like it. It is MY time, if I have an hour without my ds, I dont want to hear yours. I AM entitled to some quiet time.

I really find these posts funny. I am more annoyed at the adults in the nail salon than the kids. I can tell stories about loud talking, being mean to the manicurists, talking on the cell phones and just being bitchy. Salons are not for relaxing anymore and if you want to relax go to a day spa. I agree! More adults piss me off than children, especially the ones on this thread

some parents have no choice but to bring their kids. You do what you have to do BUT the child shouldn't be running around, screaming, etc. if they are sitting close to their parent and not bothering anyone, I don't see it as a big deal. Just my opinion.

And I agree that some adults can be just as annoying or even more so. I had this one lady talking loud on her cell phone, like loud where everyone heard her whole conversation. Doesn't matter how old you are - annoying has no age.

It would not be my first choice to bring either of my kids to a mani-pedi, but I certainly wouldn't judge someone else for bringing theirs.
The "mom-shaming" on this post is disgusting. No one is purposely bringing their child to a nail place so they can annoy you. Some moms have no choice but to bring their kid/kids with them.

This is the truth! I don't mind anyone else's kids anymore, as long as they aren't touching me or trying to talk TO me. The idea of having to keep control of my kids when I can't chase them or get to them gives me hives.
