Re: Your opinion
I would never bring my kids to a nail salon. I won't be taking DD for manis either but that's due to none of them being sanitary.
I don't think kids belong there, as many other have said it IS a luxury for many. It's certainly NOT a necessity, like a doctor's apt when you have no choice but to bring your child. My mom was recently complaining that a nail salon filled with kids ruined her last mani/pedi. I felt really bad, as she only goes on rare occasions and looks forward to them as a time to relax.

Your opinion
I just wish people that say NEVER would see both sides. While I wish I could have ME time and enjoy that luxury of a quiet relaxing mani/ pedi some of us do not have the "luxury" of a sitter. While some posters consider the mani/ pedi the luxury I consider the sitter the luxury. Get what I am saying? It's just a different way to look at it. Again- I don't show up for a 5 hour spa appt. I usually pick one either a mani OR a pedi, bring my 14 month old Cheerios, a bottle and toys and he sits in his stroller and we play peek a boo (quietly don't worry I'm not bothering anyone) and I can at least get my pedicure and don't need to bother anyone to watch my kids.
It's also all about timing. Monday morning first appt is hardly crowded or even half busy. I would think twice about 12 noon on a Saturday.

Your opinion
I would never in a million years NOT expect to see babies, toddlers, preschoolers, children, teens at a nail salon and I will continue to bring my own daughter. We enjoy the time together, she feels special and quite frankly if I am paying for the service for her no one better say a word. And yes she is 100% well behaved.

What about a sahm that has no other option? They deserve to get their nails done. Sometimes there just isn't anyone to help out, I know from experience.

What if this woman had a wedding to get ready for or some kind of event and had no choice but to bring her child? I bring my DD with me all of the time to get my eyebrows done and she screams and cries because she thinks the woman is hurting me. So for 10 mins my DD is crying, do I feel bad ? Of course! But I have no choice when there isn't anyone available to watch her. Should I not bring her and look like a hairy monster because the woman next to me is getting her nails done? HELL NO!
This happened to me recently. Had a wedding to go to but no one to watch DD. I ended up tweezing and doing my own nails at home.
But to each their own.
ETA: Like I've said previously... if your kid can sit there quietly, great. If not, please be respectful of other patrons. That's all we're trying to say.
I was just going to say that. No one knows hiw to tweeze their eyebrows anymore? Lol. I have only had mine down a couple times in my life as I can easily do them myself and do everyday. It takes a couple minutes.

No I don't lol, I'm not very girly and have never plucked my eyebrows. I don't know how and I'm scared if I do it would look crooked. I always have gotten them threaded since I was 18.
Eta: I know it's sounds crazy lol but if I don't get them done then I walk around a bushy mess.

No I don't tweeze my eyebrows. I choose to get them done because I like the way they do them rather then when I attempt. On that note, does no one know how to paint their nails anymore??? Everyone has their "thing" that they like to do. So don't judge!

I tweeze in between appts but once every 2-3 weeks I get them done always have. They need to be shaped more than I can do with my tweezer.

I don't get my nails done anymore but I used to weekly. If I didn't have anyone to watch my kids, I didn't go. It's a luxury, not necessity.

If your children are sitting quietly, then I have no problem.
However, if they're screaming, crying, fidgety, etc. and disrupting others, then the right thing to do is wrap things up, reschedule, and go home.
I don't buy the SAHM excuse. Find some local moms and take turns watching each others' kids if they won't sit quietly. Again, I'm not talking about kids who behave. If they do, not an issue.
I just kept thinking of the NY Times article as I was reading this post. If manis were triple the price like they should be, many people's working conditions would improve. But now I can think of another benefit. Maybe it'll mitigate some people's sense of entitlement.

All the people who said yes,I bring my dd all said after how well behaved they were
I think people are talking about a kid screaming or running etc. That for me,is not ok
Kid doesn't have to sit there like a statue but as much as the mom who has to bring the kid deserves the mani/so does the one without kids or the mom who got away for a few min

"Behaved" is subjective. I am sure the mother (and father who didn't do anything either) on the plane the other day who was ignoring her child would have said he was behaved too.

Ok this is my last comment- I never ever argue with anyone on here and I've been on this site for 8 years! I dont think I've ever commented on one topic so much. It just strikes a little nerve. Wow! It has nothing to do with entitlement! I would just love a simple manicure once in awhile. I'm not saying I'm ENTITLED to it! Just saying I would like one. So if my well behaved children are with me please dont shoot me a look. That's all.
I don't leave my kids with others... I never do... That's me! Only my DH and my parents. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong just saying that's how I operate as a parent.
Again- I do believe timing is everything. I am super cognizant about when I take my kids with me (usually it's just my son bc he's the baby and my daughter is in school). I plan out the lousy 30 min and I am very aware not to bother anyone.
Now I'm done with this!

Others said so, perhaps not with that word, but in their own way - calling it a necessity, and that people cannot look presentable without one. There was also a poster who admits her DC screams the whole time she gets her eyebrows done. That is NOT right.
I once witnessed the owner of my salon reschedule someone starting to get a pedicure whose son was running wild. I say good for her (the owner.) Some people are so selfish.

True. People have different definitions of behaved. To that end, the salon's definition should prevail. I just stated on my other post that I once witnessed the owner of the salon I go to reschedule someone whose kid was running wild. I was happy to see that, as was everyone else in the place.
