Dd was 17.5 months. She has always been extremely cautious .She finally started walking when my husband walked behind her holding her at the hips. Then when she got comfortable with that he let go. She didn't know at first she was even walking on her own. ( Kind of like a parent holding the back of a bike and then letting go). She's been walking ever since. I guess she just needed to see she wasn't going to fall. Prior to her walking I was freaking out because she was so late and not really even trying.Dd was perfectly happy crawling and a tiny bit of cruising but it was more stressful on me I think. I was constantly on " the University of Google" trying to see what I could do to help. Then my hubby just tried the above out of the blue and it worked.I read somewhere that its very common for cautious kids who over think things to be later walkers. Good luck.
This is very similar to our experience. DD was super cautious and hated to lose her balance. She almost never fell down bc she wouldn't try anything she wasn't confident about. She'd been cruising forever and then one day her therapist held her by the hips to help her get her balance and once she felt secure, she walked several steps to the couch. After we did that a bunch of times, she started pacing the house and that was that!

dd took her first steps at 14.5 months. I never considered her "late"/wasn't worried, but when people would ask me if she was walking yet, I'd get those *looks* when I said no. I didn't encourage her either... once they start, they never stop - and I was in no rush lol
This exactly! My DD was 15 months, and DS was 14 months (twins) and they eventually just figured it out.

late walkers....
MY DS was 17 months and week LOL. I was so nervous that he wasn't walking he wasn't a big crawler he would scoot around so fast. One day he finally started and now 2 months later hes running like crazy!

16.5 months. She never crawled, only scooted... I think being around other kids who were walking finally did it for her. She moved up in day care still scooting. It wasn't long after that she was walking.

My dd was 17 months when she started fully walking. We encouraged her with push toys and walking holding our hands.

My twins walked at 13 and 14 months. My 3rd now is 13 months and has no desire! If I even try to walk with him he sits his butt down and crawls away. My SIL said that if they are good crawlers sometimes they walk later because they can get from one place to another quickly so they have no need to try to walk.
I actually want him to walk already since it is nice out and my twins are outside playing, I can't let him crawl on he concrete so either I am holding him or he is in his stroller which only lasts so long.

17 months. We didn't ESPECIALLY encourage waling any more than with my other DC..... just the usual.

Thank you ladies for posting this! My DD is 15 mo and not walking yet. She didn't crawl until 11 months and although she does cruise she's super cautious. I get the looks/comments whenever ppl ask if she's walking yet. It actually started to make me nervous.
Now reading these posts I feel much better and I know when she is ready she will take off.

This exactly, only my DD was probably just over 15 months. I really hope DD2 is the same way, if I could choose I would def prefer a later walker to an early one!!

yeh seriously! ppl are so quick to judge when it comes to these things!
One day soon I'm going to get into a fight with someone who suggests that there is something wrong with dd. A family member recently did it. I hate people.
