late walkers....

How old was dc when they started to walk? How did you encourage walking?

Mine walked at 11.5 and 12.5 mo. I didn't encourage, they just did it. I think they say they should be walking at 16/18 mo or you should talk to ped or EI.

DD walked at 16 months with the help of PT. There were other things she wasn't doing when we started EI at 13 months. Walking is not technically considered delayed until 18 months.

DS #1 walked at about 16 months - he just took off

DS#2 was about 17 months - he took off as well.

I wasn't worried about them walking late and hoping ds#3 will be a late walker too :)

My DD cruised forever, but started truly walking at 14 months. To encourage her walking I just held her hand and walked all over the house and finally she was confident to take off off on her own.

DD didn't start walking until ~18/19 months old. She barely cruised. Skipped that stage entirely. Went from crawling to walking. We encouraged walking by having her crawl up the stairs (strengthens) and by putting toys and cheerios along the couch so that she would try to pull up and then walk along it. Gave her push toys, like a doll stroller, so that she could hold on with two hands but have to take steps with it as it moved from the weight. But we had a physical therapist helping us. If we didn't she might not have walked until 2.

DD walked shortly after 16mo. She's been in PT through EI since 6mo though, so it probably would've been later without the help she received. Today is actually her LAST PT session because she's finally considered to be caught up with her gross motor skills.

DS didn't walk until he was 15 months. He didnt crawl until he was 10 months.
He was just so laid back and lazy about it. We would hand walk him everywhere and when he was ready, he just took off.

My oldest walked at 14 months. We didn't really encourage, just made sure he had lots of opportunities to pull himself up and were readily available for him to walk to if he wanted.

my niece was 18/19 months! never crawled though she did "scoot". She is a moving machine now at 2.5

my DS walked at 15 months. but he was in PT since 6 months for torticollis and gross motor delays.

My DD was a later walker. She was walking with assistance at 12 months because we started forcing the issue with walking toys. I swear, I don't think she would've ever walked if we didn't make her. At 15 months she was walking on her own.

DS just grabbed the walking toys at around 10 months old and took off. Right before he turned 1 he was walking on his own.

ETA - DD NEVER crawled. She tried once after she started walking at 15 months and then never again really. DS was crawling at just a few months old. He was more motivated to do physical things, DD was content to just sit and play.

DD is 17.5 mos. and she's not walking. I think she's actually regressed with a lot of pre-walking skills. I just called e.i.

My twins were 16 and 17 months and my 3rd baby was somewhere between 16 and 18 months. I did not encourage, they just did it on their own. I knew there was nothing wrong and they could do it if they wanted to. It's like they knew they could get where they wanted quickly by crawling so why stop.

dd took her first steps at 14.5 months. I never considered her "late"/wasn't worried, but when people would ask me if she was walking yet, I'd get those *looks* when I said no. I didn't encourage her either... once they start, they never stop - and I was in no rush lol

My dd had EI. She wasnt walking or even trying to. She would just crawl. She finally walked at 20 months. She still has issues and has been evaluted again and will most likey recieve PT.

DS was 15.5 months - he was in EI for about 5 months due to what I guess was a gross motor delay. He never rolled, never crawled and then one day he just up and walked across the dining room!

Dd was 17.5 months. She has always been extremely cautious .She finally started walking when my husband walked behind her holding her at the hips. Then when she got comfortable with that he let go. She didn't know at first she was even walking on her own. ( Kind of like a parent holding the back of a bike and then letting go). She's been walking ever since. I guess she just needed to see she wasn't going to fall. Prior to her walking I was freaking out because she was so late and not really even trying.Dd was perfectly happy crawling and a tiny bit of cruising but it was more stressful on me I think. I was constantly on " the University of Google" trying to see what I could do to help. Then my hubby just tried the above out of the blue and it worked.I read somewhere that its very common for cautious kids who over think things to be later walkers. Good luck.

I have twins. DD walked by 11 months.

DS just started walking now at 16 months. He had help from EI, he was not rolling or crawling at 11 months even, thats why he had PT.

Also, he got glasses in Jan. once that happened he took off with all the other milestones.
