Re: 102.7 fever with teething?

My kids never had a fever like that when teeth came in. I would keep an eye on that, he might be coming down with something.

A few weeks ago my DS started with fevers around the same temp and had no other symptoms..........he ended up developing pneumonia.

Hope he feels better! Chat Icon

My DD had the same (fever and ear pulling) a couple of months ago. It turned out to be an ear infection.

Yea, we ended up in the hospital overnight. It was awful.

I'm sure you're LO will be ok, I don't mean to say he will get pneumonia. You just never know with these random fevers, sometimes unexpected things develop fast.

102.7 fever with teething?

I'd say that's too high for teething. Our ped told us that teething can cause low grade fevers, but really not above 101 at the highest.

Don't worry about it. I pretty much knew it wasn't teething but hoping it could be since he just had double ear infections a month ago.

Ill see what the night/morning brings and take him in to get his ears and lungs checked.

Just curious...how long after he had the fevers was he diagnosed with pnemonia? was he wheezing, coughing?

A fever that high & pulling ears I would definitely say ear infection.

No wheezing actually. Cough started maybe a day or two after fever.

He got the fever on a Wednesday, took him to ped because my DD was already going that day because she was sick. Everything ok. By Saturday afternoon he was soooooo lethargic and his fevers were spiking to over 103. Saw ped again Sunday morning because he wasn't better and his breathing sounded labored and shallow to me. They heard the pneumonia so they started him on meds right away. He was rechecked Monday morning and he wasn't any better and his oxygen levels were so, so low that they sent him right to ER.

He was on oxygen and IV antibiotics for two days. It was crazy. It developed so fast and out of nowhere.

He's all better now but it was a rough few days.

too high for teething. In my experience, whenever DD had a fever past 100 with no other symptoms its almost always an ear infection. :(

Teething fevers aren't typically over 101. DD had one once and she ranged from 100.7- 101.1. The higher end was at night when babies temp increase anyway.

Re: 102.7 fever with teething?

I think that's high for teething. I don't mean to scare you, but dd had a similar temp a few months ago, with no symptoms except her breathing seemed more rapid. Blood test came out high for WBC count. Urine test was negative for a uti, so we were sent for chest X-rays, and she had pneumonia. I'd bring dc into the peds just to be checked out.

Hmmm... Did they do a finger prick to check the white blood cell count? My peds do that to see if it's an infection vs. viral. From there, they know whether to pry more to look at uti, pneumonia, etc. or assume its viral. Also, both dd (at ped office) and DH (at premiere care) had the flu nose swipe done, and the cultures came back in 5-10 minutes. Is there a reason why you have to wait a day for them?

they were all out of the rapid tests. They never do finger pricks I may request that next time.
He still has 104 without Tylenol. Bringing him back tomorrow if his fever isn't down .

DD recently had a similar fever for 3-4 days. Once her fever broke, she broke out in a rash all over. Classic roseola. I was so relieved once I saw it and finally could put a name to what it was. Hoping it's just viral for your little guy too. Chat Icon

OK....I'm in the minority....but my DS always runs a high fever right when the tooth cuts thru. Every single time! The fever normally lasts just a few hours (usually overnight) and by morning, the tooth has cut. My ped says that it's not that but any time I've brought him in for the fever, he doesn't have an ear infections, flu or any other virus. When I was talking to my MIL about it, she told me that my DH was the same way. So, IMO, it COULD be teeth. But only if its a very short lived fever. Regardless, I hope you DC feels better soon!

I went through this this past week, been back and forth to the dr, no uti, high white blood cell count and no ear infection....until today. Today was the first time they saw the infection, it took a week.
