Birthday Party with no food

I am trying to find places to do DS's 1st Birthday in October. I found a place where I can rent the hall for about $150 for 4 hours, but it does not include any food and I can't bring food in (besides the cake). Their lowest food package would cost us $900 and that is out of the question.

So, would it be weird to have a party with no food??

Birthday Party with no food

In my family, they def expect food. So in my case, I would have to feed them because they would show up looking for it! Lol

Do you plan on having any other activities?

Is it just a big open room (like a KOC) with tables and chairs?

What about drinks?

Can you bring appetizers and finger foods at least?

If you're asking if it would be weird to go to a party for 4 hours and sit around with nothing to eat except cake, I don't think that would work out very well. Sorry.

How many people are you planning to have? What about exploring other options.

THis is pretty much what I was thinking. My family always expects food, but if it's an event where there's a DJ lots of dancing, you could probably get away with light snacks and drinks.

Honestly, yes. I have never been to a party family or friend with no food.

I would personally never have a party with no food at all. And I would be kinda of annoyed if I attended a party with no food - unless it was somehow clear there wouldn't be any.

Birthday Party with no food

You really need to have food at a four hour party. Especially if there are kids there.

Re: Birthday Party with no food

I remember asking a question last summer if food for the adults were a must at a kiddie party (1.5 long) and was told it was. So I'd say if it is that important for the adults to have food, it'd be important for all guests to have food.

At a 4 hour function I don't see how not having food could be an option. With a 4 hour window you would be hitting into a meal time at some point.

Re: Birthday Party with no food

especially bc you're having at a hall...and for 4 hours, yes...I would expect food. People will end up leaving the party to find the nearest mcdonalds not just for themselves...but kids eat more frequently than we do with snacks and such

Unless it is a "come over for cake after dinner" kinda party you need food.

Re: Birthday Party with no food

Can you bring your own food? The hall rental is probably so low because they get you with the food! Check out some local firehouses. They are reasonably priced and allow you to bring outside food.

You have to have food. If someone in my family had a party without food we would all end up taking about that person for years to come...you have to be a good hostess and provide refreshments

Is it possible to negotiate with the hall about the food package? If not, I would find another place to have the party where the food package fits your budget or where you can bring your own.

You definitely need food. My advice, find another hall where you can cater in your own food. Also, we did J&R steakhouse for dd1's 1st bday and it was 15/pp and we had like 40 people. It was way less then 900. Maybe you can cut down your list as well?

I agree. DD was invited to a birthday party at lunchtime. They only had cake. It was licorice flavored. The kids were all two and three years old. No one ate the cake after eating the first bite. I took DD after the party to get lunch and met almost every other guest at the restaurant next door. Yes we all talked about the parents of the birthday child.

What would you do or four hours with no food?

Definitely need food. I'd keep looking or have a smaller party.

ITA

I would never have a party for that long and not have food. I would find that extremely weird and you will have loads of hungry guests.

Four hours and no food would not fly in with my family or friends. Sorry.

That is to long of a function not to offer anything. You may be able to find a restaurant for a lot less. If not, I agree with others. If you're having entertainment, maybe you can work something out with the hall where you can do appz, drinks, finger foods and a cake.
